Malawi Visa for Egypt Citizens 2026

e-Visa / eTA

Egyptian citizens must obtain an eVisa for Malawi before travel through evisa.gov.mw; standard processing is about 3-5 business days with an online fee payment.

Guide last updated October 18, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay, with at least one blank page
  • Scanned copy of the passport bio-data page (clear, colour scan)
  • A recent passport-style digital photo for upload
  • Proof of accommodation in Malawi (hotel booking or invitation letter)
  • Return or onward flight itinerary
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the stay
  • No in-person biometrics required for the eVisa itself; biometrics may be captured on arrival at the port of entry
  • Travel health insurance is recommended; a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if arriving from or transiting a country with yellow fever risk

Visa types

  • Single-entry Tourist eVisa - valid for use within 3 months of issue, permits a stay of up to 30 days, extendable
  • Single-entry Business eVisa - requires an additional invitation letter from the hosting Malawian company
  • Multiple-entry eVisa - available for frequent travelers at a higher fee, valid for up to 6 or 12 months
  • Long-stay work or residence permits are not issued through the eVisa system and require a separate application through Malawi's immigration department

How to apply online

  • Apply at the official portal evisa.gov.mw
  • Create an account, complete the online application form, and upload your passport scan, photo, and supporting documents
  • Pay the visa fee online by debit or credit card: approximately USD 50 for a single-entry tourist eVisa (local currency equivalent in Malawian kwacha is also accepted on some payment gateways)
  • Processing time is typically 3-5 business days, though it can take longer during peak periods
  • Approval is sent by email as a PDF eVisa, which you print and present together with your passport on arrival; it is not a sticker in the passport

Fees & processing time

  • Single-entry eVisa fee: approximately USD 50
  • Multiple-entry eVisa fee: approximately USD 75-100 depending on validity chosen
  • No separate service fee beyond the standard payment processing charge on the portal
  • Standard processing time: 3-5 business days
  • No official paid express service is advertised; applying well ahead of travel is the main way to avoid delay

Tips for Egypt travelers

  • Apply at least 2 weeks before travel to leave room for any request for extra documents
  • Common rejection reasons: blurry passport scans, mismatched names between passport and payment details, and missing proof of onward travel
  • There is no VFS or BLS involvement for Malawi - the eVisa is handled entirely through the government portal, so be cautious of third-party sites charging extra fees
  • Check current yellow fever certificate requirements before flying, since this is a common reason for delay at the Malawian border
  • Extensions of stay can be requested at the Department of Immigration in Lilongwe or Blantyre before the visa expires
