  • Biometrics (fingerprints and digital photo) required in person at the VFS Global application centre for Luxembourg visas in Cairo, unless already enrolled within the last 5 years

Visa types

  • Schengen Type C Tourist/Visit visa - single or multiple entry, up to 90 days within any 180-day period, fee EUR 90
  • Business visa - same Type C category, requires an invitation letter from the hosting Luxembourg company plus a cover letter from the Egyptian employer
  • National Type D visa - for stays longer than 90 days (work, study, family reunification); applied for separately and requires a residence permit sponsor in Luxembourg

  • VFS service fee: approximately EGP 750
  • Total estimated cost: around EGP 5,250-5,750
  • Standard processing: 15 calendar days from biometrics submission

Tips for Egypt travelers

  • Apply at least 3-4 weeks before travel to allow for appointment availability and possible processing delays
  • Common rejection reasons for Egyptian applicants: insufficient or inconsistent bank statements, weak proof of ties to Egypt, vague or last-minute travel itineraries, and missing Schengen-compliant travel insurance
  • VFS Global in Cairo is mandatory for lodging the application - there is no direct walk-in option at a Luxembourg consular office
  • Luxembourg does not maintain an embassy in Cairo for all services, so confirm current Schengen representation arrangements before booking
  • Extensions inside Luxembourg are granted only in exceptional circumstances such as a medical emergency or other proven force majeure
