Guide last updated October 17, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from the Schengen area, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
  • Two recent passport-style photos (35x45mm, matching Schengen biometric photo standards)
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter) for the full stay
  • Round-trip flight itinerary
  • Proof of sufficient funds (bank statements for the last 3 months)
  • Schengen-compliant travel medical insurance with minimum EUR 30,000 coverage
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and digital photo) collected in person at the visa application center

Visa types

  • Type C short-stay visa (tourism/business/family visit): single, double, or multiple entry, valid for stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period
  • Type D long-stay national visa: for work, study, or long-term family reunification, requiring additional country-specific documentation
  • Airport transit visa: only required for certain nationalities transiting through a Schengen airport without entering the Schengen area

How to apply

  • Submit the application at the designated visa application center in Cairo handling Lithuanian or broader Schengen visas, or directly at the consular section if no outsourced center is in operation
  • Steps: book an appointment, complete the online or paper form, gather supporting documents, attend the appointment for document submission and biometrics, pay the fee, and track the decision
  • An interview is not usually required for straightforward tourist applications but may be requested
  • Apply no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 days before travel

Fees & processing time

  • Standard Schengen visa fee: EUR 90 for adults, EUR 45 for children aged 6-12
  • VFS/BLS service fee (where applicable): typically an additional EUR 25-35
  • Standard processing time: 15 calendar days from a complete submission, extendable up to 30-45 days in complex cases
  • No officially guaranteed expedited service, though some application centers offer a premium/priority handling option for an extra fee that does not change the decision timeline

Tips for Egypt travelers

  • Apply well ahead of travel dates, especially during the European summer season when processing can run closer to the maximum timeline
  • Common rejection reasons include insufficient proof of funds, unclear travel purpose, and inconsistent or missing travel insurance documentation
  • If visiting multiple Schengen countries, apply through the country where you will spend the most nights, or your first point of entry if time is split evenly
  • Keep both digital and physical copies of all supporting documents for the appointment
  • Monitor official guidance for any updates to appointment availability or document requirements before booking non-refundable travel
