Guide last updated October 17, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • No visa application needed for the visa-free 21-day stay
  • Return or onward ticket may be requested at the port of entry
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host's address)
  • No photo or biometrics required for the visa-free entry
  • Travel health insurance recommended; local travel insurance can be purchased on arrival if needed

Visa types

  • No visa required for tourist entries up to 21 days under the visa-free arrangement for Egyptian passport holders
  • For stays beyond 21 days, or for business/study, Egyptian nationals must apply for Iran's e-Visa through e_visa.mfa.ir or a sticker visa through the Iranian consular section

Entry conditions

  • Present your passport on arrival at an Iranian airport or border crossing; Egyptian citizens are stamped in for up to 21 days without a pre-issued visa
  • Visitors may not undertake paid work during the visa-free stay
  • Dress code and conduct rules in Iran apply to all visitors, including a headscarf requirement for women in public
  • Extensions beyond 21 days are not available under this exemption; apply for the standard e-Visa in advance if more time is needed

Fees & processing time

  • No fee for the 21-day visa-free entry
  • Mandatory travel insurance, if not already held, can be purchased on arrival for a small fee
  • No application processing time since no visa is filed in advance

Tips for Egypt travelers

  • Confirm the current status of the Egypt-Iran visa-free arrangement before traveling, as diplomatic relations and travel rules can shift
  • Carry printed proof of hotel bookings and return flights
  • Dress conservatively, particularly for women, from the moment of arrival
  • Register with the Egyptian embassy in Tehran if staying for an extended period or traveling to remote areas
  • Arrange sufficient cash in advance, as Iran's banking system is disconnected from international Visa/Mastercard networks
