Germany Visa for Egypt Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Egyptian citizens need a Schengen (Type C) visa for Germany, applied for through the German Embassy in Cairo or its authorized visa application centre, with a fee of €80 and standard processing of about 15 calendar days.

Guide last updated October 17, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area, with at least 2 blank pages.
  • Completed Schengen visa application form, signed.
  • Travel health insurance covering at least €30,000 for medical emergencies and repatriation across the Schengen area.
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or formal invitation letter from a host in Germany).
  • Confirmed round-trip flight reservation.
  • Bank statements for the last 3 months and an employer letter or, if self-employed, commercial registration documents.
  • One recent passport photo, 35mm x 45mm, light background.
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and photo) are mandatory and collected in person at the visa application centre.

Visa types

  • Schengen Short-Stay Visa (Type C): tourism, business, or family visits, single or multiple entry, up to 90 days in any 180-day period, fee €80.
  • National Long-Stay Visa (Type D): for study, work, or family reunification exceeding 90 days, applied for separately with supporting documents specific to the purpose.
  • Airport Transit Visa: rarely needed for Egyptian passengers, applies only to certain transit scenarios.

How to apply

  • Book an appointment with the German Embassy Cairo or its authorized visa application centre well in advance.
  • Complete the Schengen application form and gather all required documents, including insurance, bank statements, and invitation/booking proof.
  • Attend your appointment in person to submit documents, pay fees, and provide biometrics.
  • Pay the €80 visa fee plus any service centre fee at the appointment.
  • Track your application using the reference number provided; standard decision time is about 15 calendar days, extending to 30-45 days during busy periods.
  • Collect your passport once a decision has been made.

Fees & processing time

  • Schengen visa fee: €80 for adults, €40 for children 6-12, free under 6.
  • Visa application centre service fee (where applicable): typically an additional amount on top of the visa fee.
  • Total estimated cost: roughly €90-110 depending on the service provider.
  • Standard processing time: 15 calendar days for a complete application.
  • No guaranteed express service; apply at least 3-4 weeks before travel, and up to 6 months ahead for planned trips.

Tips for Egypt travelers

  • Book your appointment as early as possible, since slots for Germany are in high demand in Cairo, particularly in summer.
  • Common rejection reasons: insufficient financial proof, inconsistent travel dates across documents, and weak ties to Egypt that raise doubts about return intent.
  • If Germany is not the main destination of a multi-country Schengen trip, apply at the embassy of the country where you will spend the most nights.
  • Keep digital and paper copies of every submitted document until your visa is issued.
  • Double-check your insurance policy explicitly states Schengen-wide coverage of at least €30,000, as generic travel insurance is often rejected.
