Vietnam Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

e-Visa / eTA

Canadian citizens can obtain a Vietnam e-visa online before travel — valid for up to 90 days with single or multiple entry, fee from USD 25, processing about 3 business days.

Guide last updated September 30, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay, with at least one blank page
  • A digital passport-style photo and a scanned photo page of the passport for the online application
  • Proof of accommodation or itinerary may be requested at the airport
  • No fixed minimum funds document required, though officers may ask for proof of means
  • Biometrics: none required for the e-visa application itself; a photo and fingerprints may be taken at some ports of entry
  • Travel health insurance is recommended though not mandatory for entry

Visa types

  • E-visa (single entry): valid 90 days from date of entry, single entry, fee USD 25
  • E-visa (multiple entry): valid 90 days from date of entry, unlimited entries within that period, fee USD 50
  • Both cover tourism and general business visits; longer or employment-based stays require a separate work permit and visa arranged through a Vietnamese sponsor

How to apply online

  • Apply at the official portal evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn (avoid third-party sites that charge extra)
  • Steps: create an account, upload the passport photo page and a personal photo, enter travel dates and entry/exit points, pay online by card
  • Fee: USD 25 single entry or USD 50 multiple entry, paid in USD online
  • Processing time: officially up to 3 working days, though it can occasionally take longer during peak season
  • Approval is emailed as a PDF, which must be printed or saved to show at check-in and immigration

Fees & processing time

  • E-visa fee: USD 25 single entry / USD 50 multiple entry, paid directly on the government portal
  • No separate service fee when applying through the official site; third-party agencies charge extra for the same service
  • Standard processing: about 3 business days; applying a week or more ahead of travel is recommended
  • No official expedited option, though some paid agencies advertise faster processing for an extra fee

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Apply only through the official evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn portal or a Vietnamese embassy to avoid overpaying through unofficial sites
  • Double-check the entry and exit points selected on the application, since errors can still cause issues at the checkpoint
  • Print a physical copy of the approved e-visa, since some checkpoints have inconsistent internet access to verify digital copies
  • Common rejection reason: a photo or passport scan that is blurry or doesn't meet the size/format requirements
  • For stays beyond 90 days, arrange an extension through a licensed travel agent inside Vietnam or a border run, since e-visas can't be extended past their original validity
