Uganda Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

e-Visa / eTA

Canadian citizens need an e-Visa for Uganda, applied for online at visas.immigration.go.ug, with a standard tourist single-entry fee of USD 50 and processing in 3-5 business days.

Guide last updated September 30, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned departure from Uganda, with at least 1 blank page.
  • Digital passport photo (white background) for the online application.
  • Scanned copy of your passport bio page.
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate - mandatory for entry into Uganda.
  • Confirmed flight itinerary and proof of accommodation.
  • No in-person biometrics for the e-visa itself, though fingerprints may be captured on arrival as standard immigration procedure.

Visa types

  • Single-entry Tourist e-Visa: 90 days validity, single entry, fee USD 50.
  • East Africa Tourist Visa: multi-country visa covering Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda, 90 days validity, multiple entries among the three countries, fee USD 100 - must be applied for through the first country you'll enter.
  • Business e-Visa: single entry, fee USD 50, requires an invitation letter from the host company.
  • Transit Visa: up to 7 days, fee USD 50, for travelers passing through to a neighboring country.

How to apply online

  • Apply at the official portal, visas.immigration.go.ug, creating an account and completing the online form with personal, passport, and travel details.
  • Upload your passport scan, photo, yellow fever certificate, and travel itinerary.
  • Pay the USD 50 fee online by credit/debit card.
  • Processing typically takes 3-5 business days; you receive an approval notice by email to print and carry with your passport.
  • Present the printed approval, passport, and yellow fever certificate at Entebbe International Airport on arrival to receive your entry stamp.

Fees & processing time

  • Single-entry tourist e-visa: USD 50 (no separate service fee - paid directly through the government portal).
  • East Africa Tourist Visa: USD 100, same online application process but selected as the visa type if visiting multiple East African countries.
  • Standard processing: 3-5 business days; apply at least 2 weeks before travel to allow for any delays.
  • No dedicated express option is advertised on the portal.

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Apply for your e-visa at least 2 weeks before departure, since processing occasionally takes longer than the stated 3-5 business days during busy periods.
  • If you're also visiting Kenya or Rwanda, apply for the East Africa Tourist Visa instead of Uganda's single-country visa to save on separate applications and fees.
  • Double-check your yellow fever certificate is valid and matches your passport details exactly - this is one of the most common reasons for delays at Entebbe airport.
  • Print your approval notice, as relying solely on a phone screenshot can cause issues if you have connectivity problems on arrival.
  • Confirm gorilla trekking permits (if planned) separately through the Uganda Wildlife Authority - these are not part of the visa process.
