Thailand Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Canadian citizens can enter Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days for tourism, and must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online before arrival.

Guide last updated September 30, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your entry date.
  • Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), completed online at tdac.immigration.go.th within 3 days before arrival - replaces the old paper TM6 form.
  • Proof of onward/return travel within the visa-exempt period.
  • Proof of funds: THB 20,000 per person or THB 40,000 per family (immigration rarely checks this but it's an official requirement).
  • Proof of accommodation for your stay.
  • No biometrics required for the visa-exempt stamp, though fingerprints/photo are sometimes taken at major airports as part of standard immigration procedure.
  • Travel health insurance is recommended, not mandatory, for tourist entry.

Visa types

  • Visa Exemption (used by most Canadian tourists): up to 60 days, single entry, no fee, extendable once for 30 days at a local immigration office (fee THB 1,900).
  • Tourist Visa (if you need more than 60 days initially, or multiple entries): single-entry validity 3 months/60-day stay, fee THB 1,000 (about CAD 38); multiple-entry validity 6 months with multiple 60-day stays, fee THB 5,000 (about CAD 190).
  • Non-Immigrant Visa (work, study, retirement, etc.): separate application with category-specific documents.

Entry conditions

  • Canadians may stay in Thailand for up to 60 days per entry under the visa exemption for tourism purposes.
  • Working is not permitted on the visa-exempt stamp.
  • One 30-day extension is available at any Thai immigration office for THB 1,900, giving a maximum of 90 days on one entry.
  • Border runs to reset the visa-exempt clock are increasingly scrutinized by immigration, particularly for frequent re-entries.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa exemption: no fee; TDAC online registration is free and takes about 10 minutes.
  • Tourist Visa (if applying in advance): THB 1,000 single entry / THB 5,000 multiple entry, processed at the Royal Thai Embassy or via VFS Global in Canada, standard processing 3-5 business days.
  • 30-day extension in-country: THB 1,900, same-day processing at an immigration office.
  • No express visa service is generally needed for Canadians given the 60-day visa-free allowance.

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Complete the TDAC online within 72 hours of your flight - airlines may deny boarding without a valid submission reference.
  • Keep a PDF or screenshot of your TDAC confirmation and your return ticket on your phone for the immigration counter.
  • If your trip may exceed 60 days, plan the THB 1,900 extension in advance rather than assuming a border run will reset your stay.
  • Peak season (November-February) sees longer immigration queues at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports - allow extra time.
  • Check current Global Affairs Canada advisories for southern border provinces if traveling near Thailand's border with Malaysia.
