What you need

  • Passport valid for the duration of your intended stay in Serbia
  • No advance visa application required for stays up to 90 days
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or private accommodation registration)
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Proof of sufficient funds
  • No photo required for visa-free entry
  • No biometrics required at entry beyond standard immigration processing
  • Travel health insurance recommended, not mandatory

Visa types

  • 90-day visa-free entry stamp - issued on arrival for tourism/business within any 180-day period
  • Temporary residence permit - for stays beyond 90 days, work, or study, applied for at a local police administration
  • Work permit - required for employment, tied to a temporary residence permit
  • Business visa (Type C equivalent) - rarely needed by Canadians given visa-free access, but available for specific business purposes

Entry conditions

  • Canadians may stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period, calculated independently of the Schengen area since Serbia is not a Schengen member
  • Employment is not permitted under visa-free entry
  • On arrival, present your passport and be prepared to show accommodation and return travel details
  • Within 24 hours of arrival, private accommodation (Airbnb, private rentals) must be registered with local police; hotels handle this automatically

Fees & processing time

  • No fee for the standard 90-day visa-free entry
  • Temporary residence permit fee, if extending: approximately RSD 2,000-5,000 (about USD 20-45)
  • Total cost for a standard visit: USD 0
  • Processing time: immediate at the border; residence permit applications take 2-4 weeks

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Register your accommodation within 24 hours of arrival if staying in a private rental; hotels do this automatically, but private stays require manual registration at the local police station
  • Serbia's 90/180 day count is separate from the Schengen area, so time here doesn't count against your Schengen allowance and vice versa
  • If crossing into Kosovo and back, confirm current entry rules, as some border crossings can cause complications on re-entry to Serbia
  • Keep your accommodation registration slips throughout your trip, as they may be checked at departure or during a stay extension application
  • Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport immigration is efficient, but land border crossings from neighboring countries can have longer queues during peak season
