Guide last updated September 30, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of entry
  • Completed application via the Saudi eVisa portal or in person on arrival
  • Passport-style digital photo for the application
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking)
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Proof of sufficient funds
  • Travel/medical insurance included automatically as part of the eVisa/visa-on-arrival fee
  • No separate biometric appointment required; photograph taken at the border if arriving without a pre-approved eVisa

Visa types

  • Tourist eVisa/visa on arrival - multiple entry, valid 1 year, maximum stay 90 days per visit
  • Umrah visa - for religious pilgrimage, arranged through approved travel agents, valid for the pilgrimage season
  • Business visa - single or multiple entry, requires a Saudi sponsor or invitation letter
  • Work visa - requires an employer sponsor (kafala) and pre-arranged work permit

Visa on arrival

  • Apply in advance at the official Saudi eVisa portal by completing the online form, uploading a photo and passport scan, and paying the fee by credit card
  • Alternatively, request the visa on arrival at Saudi airports (Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam) by completing a kiosk application with passport and payment
  • The eVisa or on-arrival visa includes mandatory travel insurance covering the visit
  • Approval for the online eVisa is typically instant to a few hours; on-arrival processing takes 15-30 minutes
  • Present the printed or digital eVisa approval, or complete the kiosk process, at the immigration counter

Fees & processing time

  • eVisa/visa on arrival fee: approximately SAR 440-480 (about USD 115-130), inclusive of mandatory insurance
  • No separate VFS/BLS fee for the standard eVisa process
  • Total cost: approximately USD 115-130
  • Processing time: instant to a few hours online; 15-30 minutes on arrival
  • No express option needed given fast standard processing

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Apply for the eVisa online before departure to avoid queues at the airport, even though on-arrival issuance is available
  • Dress and conduct guidelines in Saudi Arabia are more conservative than in Canada; review current entry requirements around dress code before travel
  • The eVisa is valid for one year with multiple entries, so frequent travelers benefit from applying once rather than per trip
  • Female travelers no longer require a male guardian (mahram) for tourist visits, a change from older regulations - confirm current rules before travel
  • Keep proof of the mandatory travel insurance included with your visa, as it may be requested during your stay for medical services
