Russia Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Canadian citizens need a visa to enter Russia for any purpose; apply for a standard sticker visa through the Russian Embassy or Consulate using an invitation or tourist voucher, since no visa-free or e-visa route is currently available to Canadians.

Guide last updated September 30, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

Fees & processing time

  • Tourist/business single-entry visa fee: approximately CAD 100-160 depending on processing speed
  • Multiple-entry business visa: approximately CAD 250-400
  • Expedited (rush) service surcharge: approximately CAD 50-100 additional
  • Total estimated cost including invitation/voucher and insurance: CAD 150-350

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Apply at least 4-6 weeks before your intended travel date given fluctuating processing times and reduced consular staffing
  • A common rejection reason is an invalid or unverifiable tourist voucher/invitation - only use licensed, registered tour operators or hotels
  • Given strained Canada-Russia relations, check current travel advisories from Global Affairs Canada before booking, as consular support in Russia is limited
  • Visa extensions inside Russia are difficult to obtain except in narrow circumstances; plan your visa validity to cover your full stay
  • Direct flights between Canada and Russia are suspended; factor connecting itineraries through third countries into your travel plans
