Poland Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa Free

As a Schengen Area member, Poland allows Canadian citizens to enter visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism or business.

Guide last updated September 30, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended departure from the Schengen Area, issued within the last 10 years
  • No visa required for stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the whole Schengen Area
  • Proof of sufficient funds for your stay
  • Return or onward travel ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter)
  • Travel/medical insurance covering the Schengen Area is recommended
  • No biometrics required for short visa-free stays currently, though the EU's upcoming Entry/Exit System (EES) will require fingerprint and photo registration at first entry once implemented

Visa types

  • No visa is required for Canadian citizens visiting Poland for tourism or business for up to 90 days in any 180-day period
  • Schengen national D-visa or residence permit (karta pobytu) is required for stays beyond 90 days, study, or work, applied for through the Polish embassy or consulate, or Poland's Office for Foreigners once in-country
  • Business visitors attending short meetings or conferences fall under the same 90-day visa-free allowance

Entry conditions

  • Canadians may stay in Poland (and the wider Schengen Area combined) for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period without a visa
  • Working in Poland is not permitted under visa-free entry; a work permit and appropriate visa/residence category are required for employment
  • Officers may ask for proof of purpose of visit, accommodation, funds, and return ticket at the border
  • No extension is available for visa-free short stays; you must leave before your 90 days are used and cannot re-enter until your 180-day rolling count allows it
  • Registration requirements for longer or repeated stays are handled through Poland's Office for Foreigners (Urząd do Spraw Cudzoziemców)

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for visa-free entry since Canadians are Schengen-exempt for short stays
  • No processing time required for visa-free entry beyond standard passport control at the border
  • A national D-visa or karta pobytu (residence card) typically costs around PLN 340-440 (roughly USD 85-110) in government fees, with processing times of 4-12 weeks depending on category
  • No standard expedited option is offered for residence permits; processing times vary by voivodeship office workload

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Track your Schengen 90/180-day allowance across all Schengen countries combined, not just Poland, especially if combining a European trip with other Schengen destinations
  • The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) and later ETIAS travel authorization are being phased in for Schengen entry; check Global Affairs Canada and Poland's official immigration site closer to your travel date
  • Carry proof of travel insurance and accommodation, as Polish border officers occasionally request documentation for non-EU visitors
  • If pursuing longer stays for work or study, apply well in advance given multi-week processing times for residence permits
  • Poland has excellent rail and bus connections to neighboring Schengen and non-Schengen countries; confirm border rules if your itinerary includes destinations like Ukraine, which is outside Schengen
