Visa Free

Canadian citizens can enter the Philippines visa-free for tourism for up to 30 days, extendable in-country for up to 36 months total through the Bureau of Immigration.

Guide last updated September 30, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay
  • No visa required for the initial 30-day tourist stay
  • Proof of onward or return ticket within 30 days, or proof of funds to purchase one if extending
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Proof of sufficient funds for your stay
  • Travel health insurance is recommended though not mandatory
  • No biometrics required for the initial visa-free entry; fingerprints are captured for extensions processed through the Bureau of Immigration

Visa types

  • No visa required for Canadian tourists for the first 30 days
  • 9(a) Temporary Visitor extensions: applied for in-country at the Bureau of Immigration, extendable in increments (commonly 29-59 day blocks) up to a cumulative 36 months for continuous tourist stays
  • Balikbayan privilege: applies to former Filipino citizens and their accompanying foreign spouse/children, granting a visa-free stay of up to 1 year; not applicable to unrelated Canadian tourists
  • Work, study, and long-term residence require separate visa categories applied for through a Philippine embassy or consulate before travel

Entry conditions

  • Canadians may stay visa-free for 30 days upon arrival
  • Employment is not permitted under the tourist entry; a work permit (AEP) and 9(g) work visa are required for paid employment
  • Extensions must be filed at a Bureau of Immigration office before your current authorized stay expires
  • After 6 months of cumulative stay in a calendar year, additional immigration clearances (such as an ACR I-Card or emigration clearance certificate) may be required
  • Departing and re-entering to "reset" the visa-free period is generally discouraged and can draw scrutiny from immigration

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for the initial 30-day visa-free entry
  • Extension fees at the Bureau of Immigration are typically around PHP 3,000-4,000 (roughly USD 55-70) for the first extension, covering an additional 29-59 days depending on the office
  • Each subsequent extension incurs additional fees, plus a separate ACR I-Card fee (around PHP 2,000-3,000) required once total stay exceeds 59 days
  • Processing for an in-country extension is usually completed the same day at Bureau of Immigration offices
  • No express fee is generally needed since standard processing is already fast for extensions

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Plan extensions ahead of time and visit a Bureau of Immigration satellite office (available in most major cities and tourist areas) before your current stay expires to avoid overstay fines
  • Overstaying even briefly can result in fines and complications when trying to leave the country, so track your extension dates carefully
  • Carry printed copies of your extension receipts along with your passport, as these are checked on departure
  • Airlines may ask for proof of onward travel before boarding your inbound flight, even though the Philippines itself is lenient about it at immigration
  • Check Global Affairs Canada's advisory for any regional notices, particularly for parts of Mindanao where increased caution is recommended
