Guide last updated September 30, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Valid Canadian passport with at least 6 months' validity remaining and at least one blank page
  • Completed online e-Visa application at evisa.moip.gov.mm
  • Digital passport-style photo (JPEG, white background, taken within the last 6 months)
  • Scanned copy of your passport bio page
  • Proof of onward/return travel and, in some cases, a hotel booking
  • Financial proof (bank statement) may be requested at the discretion of immigration
  • Travel health insurance is recommended, not mandatory
  • No in-person biometrics required for the e-Visa; biometric photo/fingerprint capture occurs on arrival at some airports

Visa types

  • Tourist e-Visa: single entry, valid 90 days from issuance for entry, allows a stay of up to 28 days, fee around USD 50
  • Business e-Visa: single entry, valid 90 days from issuance, stay up to 70 days, fee around USD 70, requires an invitation letter from a Myanmar-registered company
  • Multiple-entry business visa: available through a Myanmar embassy for longer-term business travelers
  • Most Canadian tourists use the standard Tourist e-Visa.

How to apply online

  • Go to evisa.moip.gov.mm and select the visa type (Tourist or Business)
  • Complete the application form with passport and travel details, upload your photo and passport scan
  • Pay the fee online by credit/debit card (USD 50 tourist / USD 70 business, plus a small processing fee)
  • Processing typically takes about 3 business days; you'll receive an approval letter (visa) by email as a PDF
  • Print the approval letter and present it with your passport at the port of entry — do not travel without the printed approval

Fees & processing time

  • Tourist e-Visa: USD 50
  • Business e-Visa: USD 70
  • No separate VFS/BLS service fee — the fee is paid directly on the official government portal
  • Standard processing time: approximately 3 business days
  • No official express/priority option; apply at least 1-2 weeks before travel to allow buffer time

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Apply no earlier than 90 days before your trip, since the e-Visa is valid for 90 days from issuance for entry
  • Common rejection/delay reasons include blurry passport scans, non-compliant photos, and mismatched name spelling between the form and passport
  • Always use the official government portal (evisa.moip.gov.mm) — third-party sites charging higher service fees are not required
  • Canada has no embassy in Myanmar; consular services are provided through the Canadian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand
  • Check current Global Affairs Canada travel advisories before finalizing plans, as regional security conditions can change
