Visa Free

Canadian citizens can enter Mozambique visa-free for stays of up to 30 days under the country's current entry exemption.

Guide last updated September 30, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Valid Canadian passport with at least 6 months' validity remaining and at least one blank page
  • No visa required for stays up to 30 days
  • Return or onward travel ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host details)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for your stay
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate if arriving from or transiting a country with risk of yellow fever transmission
  • Travel health insurance is strongly recommended given the limited private healthcare outside Maputo

Visa types

  • Canadian tourists and short business visitors need no visa for up to 30 days. For other stays:
  • eVisa (Tourist/Business): applied for online in advance at evisa.gov.mz, needed for a stay beyond 30 days or a specific business purpose
  • DIRE residence permit: required for anyone remaining in Mozambique past their entry allowance, obtained through Mozambique's migration service (SENAMI)
  • Most short Canadian visits will not require either.

Entry conditions

  • Visa-free stay is capped at 30 days per entry
  • Employment is not permitted under this exemption
  • Present your passport, return ticket, and yellow fever certificate (if applicable) to immigration at the port of entry
  • To extend your stay, apply through SENAMI (the national migration service) before the 30 days expire, or apply for an eVisa in advance for a longer planned stay
  • Overstaying can result in fines assessed on departure

Fees & processing time

  • No fee for the 30-day visa-free entry
  • Where an eVisa is needed for a longer stay, fees are approximately USD 40-70 depending on visa type and entries requested
  • Standard eVisa processing takes 3-5 working days
  • No priority/express service is advertised on the official eVisa portal

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Canada has no embassy in Mozambique; consular support is provided through the Canadian High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa
  • Confirm current yellow fever certificate requirements before departure, as enforcement varies by port of entry
  • Carry small denominations of US dollars or South African rand, as ATM access can be unreliable outside Maputo
  • Malaria prophylaxis is recommended for most of the country — consult a travel clinic before departure
  • Register your trip with Global Affairs Canada given the limited on-the-ground Canadian consular presence
