Mongolia Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Canadian citizens can enter Mongolia visa-free for tourism stays of up to 30 days under Mongolia's visa-exemption policy.

Guide last updated September 30, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Valid Canadian passport with at least 6 months' validity remaining
  • No visa required for stays up to 30 days
  • Return or onward flight ticket, which may be checked at Chinggis Khaan International Airport
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host details) for the duration of the stay
  • Sufficient funds for your stay (bank statement or cash)
  • Travel health/medical insurance is strongly recommended given limited medical facilities outside Ulaanbaatar
  • No biometrics collected on visa-free entry

Visa types

  • Short-term Canadian visitors need no visa. For longer or other purposes, Mongolia issues:
  • Tourist visa (T): for stays beyond 30 days, single or multiple entry, valid up to 90 days, issued through Mongolian consulates
  • Business visa (B/HG): for work-related visits, requires an invitation letter from a Mongolian host organization
  • Student/work visas: require sponsorship and a temporary residence permit application inside Mongolia
  • These are only needed if your visit exceeds 30 days or is for non-tourist purposes.

Entry conditions

  • Stay is limited to 30 consecutive days per visa-free entry
  • Employment is not permitted on visa-free status
  • Present your passport, return ticket, and (if requested) proof of accommodation to immigration on arrival at Chinggis Khaan International Airport or a land border crossing
  • Foreign nationals staying longer than 30 days must register with Mongolia's Immigration Agency within 7 days of arrival
  • To extend beyond 30 days you must apply for a visa in advance or leave and re-enter, since visa-free entries cannot be extended at the border

Fees & processing time

  • No fee for the 30-day visa-free entry
  • A standard Mongolian tourist visa from a consulate costs approximately USD 53 (single entry) to USD 106 (multiple entry), plus courier/service charges
  • Standard visa processing time is 3-5 working days
  • Express processing (next-day) is available at some consulates for roughly double the standard fee

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Mongolia has no embassy in Canada; visa matters are typically handled through the Mongolian Consulate in Vancouver or Mongolia's mission in Washington, D.C.
  • Plan around the short travel season — most tourist infrastructure operates fully only from May to September
  • Carry cash (Mongolian togrog) for rural areas, as card acceptance is limited outside Ulaanbaatar
  • Register your trip with Global Affairs Canada, since Canada's nearest embassy covering Mongolia is in Beijing
  • If staying with a local host, keep a copy of their address and ID in case border officers request it
