Moldova Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Canadian citizens can enter Moldova visa-free for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism or business.

Guide last updated September 30, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Valid Canadian passport with at least 6 months' validity remaining beyond your planned departure date
  • No visa or entry stamp required in advance
  • Proof of onward or return travel (flight ticket) may be requested by border officers
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the stay (bank statement or cash)
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter)
  • Travel health insurance is strongly recommended, though not mandatory for entry
  • No biometrics collection required for visa-free entry

Visa types

  • Canadians do not need a visa for short tourism, business, or family visits. If a longer stay is required, the following categories exist:
  • Long-stay/D-visa: for study, work, or family reunification, issued by Moldovan consulates, validity matches purpose (3-12 months)
  • Temporary residence permit: required for stays beyond 90 days, applied for at the Bureau for Migration and Asylum (BMA) inside Moldova
  • Canadian tourists rarely need any of these unless settling long-term.

Entry conditions

  • Canadian passport holders may stay up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period without a visa
  • Employment is not permitted under the visa-free entry; a work permit and long-stay visa are required for paid work
  • On arrival, present your passport, return ticket, and proof of accommodation if asked; there is no visa stamp issued
  • To stay longer than 90 days, apply for a temporary residence permit or long-stay visa before the visa-free period expires
  • The official government portal (mfa.gov.md) lists current entry rules and any temporary changes

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee applies for visa-free entry
  • If a long-stay D-visa is needed, fees range from EUR 60-120 (~USD 65-130) depending on category, payable at the consulate
  • Standard processing for a long-stay visa is 10-15 working days
  • There is no expedited/priority option at most Moldovan consulates, since Moldova has no embassy in Canada and applications go through Washington, D.C. or Brussels

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Since Moldova has no embassy in Canada, non-visa questions are handled by the Moldovan Embassy in Washington, D.C.
  • Keep your 90/180-day count carefully if combining Moldova with Schengen travel — Moldova's rule is separate from the Schengen 90/180 rule
  • Carry printed proof of accommodation and a return ticket, as land border crossings (e.g., from Romania) sometimes ask for these
  • Register with Global Affairs Canada's travel registration service before departure
  • If your passport is lost or stolen in Moldova, contact the Canadian Embassy in Bucharest, Romania, which also serves Moldova
