Micronesia Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Canadian citizens can visit the Federated States of Micronesia visa-free for up to 30 days, extendable to 90 days.

Guide last updated September 29, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival date
  • No visa application form required for the visa-free stay
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking)
  • Return or onward ticket (important, as inter-island flight schedules are infrequent)
  • Proof of sufficient funds for your stay
  • No biometrics required beyond a standard immigration photo
  • Travel health insurance recommended given limited medical facilities on outer islands

Visa types

  • Not applicable for stays under 30 days - visa-free tourist entry
  • For work or longer stays, a Foreign Investment Permit or entry permit extension is required through the FSM Department of Justice/Immigration before or after arrival

Entry conditions

  • Canadian passport holders may enter Micronesia visa-free and stay for up to 30 days for tourism
  • No paid employment permitted under this entry
  • Immigration may request proof of onward travel and accommodation on arrival
  • Main entry points are the international airports on Pohnpei, Chuuk, Yap, and Kosrae, served by United Airlines' island-hopper route
  • Extensions beyond 30 days, up to a maximum of 90 days, can be requested at an immigration office within the FSM before the initial period expires

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for the 30-day visa-free entry
  • No processing time - granted on arrival
  • Extension fee, if sought, is a modest amount payable in US Dollars (the FSM uses USD), typically processed within a few business days at a local immigration office

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Confirm inter-island and onward flight schedules well ahead of time, since the island-hopper route operates only a few times per week
  • Carry US Dollars in cash, as card acceptance is limited outside main hotels
  • Each of the four states (Pohnpei, Chuuk, Yap, Kosrae) has its own local customs - respect local protocols, especially around cultural sites
  • Medical evacuation insurance is strongly recommended given minimal local healthcare capacity on outer islands
  • Book accommodation ahead, as options are limited outside the main town centers
