Malaysia Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Canadian citizens can visit Malaysia visa-free for up to 90 days, but must complete the free Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online before arrival.

Guide last updated September 29, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival date
  • Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) completed online within 3 days before arrival (free, replaces the old paper arrival card)
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking)
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Proof of sufficient funds for your stay
  • No biometrics required for visa-free entry, though fingerprint/photo may be taken at immigration
  • Travel health insurance recommended

Visa types

  • Not applicable for stays under 90 days - visa-free tourist and business entry
  • For employment, study, or long-term stays, an Employment Pass, Student Pass, or MM2H (Malaysia My Second Home) visa is required, applied for through the Malaysian Immigration Department or Windowmalaysia eVisa portal before travel

Entry conditions

  • Canadian passport holders may stay in Malaysia visa-free for up to 90 days for tourism or business
  • No paid employment permitted under visa-free entry
  • The MDAC must be submitted online before boarding your flight - failure to do so can delay immigration clearance
  • Main entry points are Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Penang, and Johor Bahru
  • Extensions beyond 90 days are generally not available for tourists and require leaving and re-entering, subject to immigration discretion

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee - visa-free entry applies
  • MDAC submission is free and takes only a few minutes online
  • No processing time for entry - decided at the border once MDAC is verified
  • No express option needed since no visa is required

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Submit the MDAC no earlier than 3 days before arrival, as earlier submissions may not be accepted
  • Keep a screenshot or PDF of your MDAC confirmation in case of connectivity issues at the airport
  • Malaysia's visa-free period is generous, but plan business activities carefully, as work is not permitted
  • East Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak) has separate immigration control from Peninsular Malaysia - your 90-day visa-free stay applies, but you'll clear immigration again when flying between them
  • Keep proof of onward travel, as it can be checked especially on one-way ticket itineraries
