Macao Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Canadian citizens can enter Macao visa-free for up to 30 days as tourists, separate from mainland China's visa rules.

Guide last updated September 29, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival date
  • No visa application form required for stays up to 30 days
  • Proof of sufficient funds for your stay
  • Return or onward ticket, including onward travel to mainland China or Hong Kong if applicable (separate visas needed for those)
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking)
  • No biometrics required for visa-free entry
  • Travel health insurance recommended though not mandatory

Visa types

  • Not applicable for stays under 30 days - visa-free tourist and business entry
  • For work or long-term stays, a Macao work permit (Blue Card) or residence authorization is required, applied for through the Macao Government Labour Affairs Bureau or Public Security Police before travel

Entry conditions

  • Canadian passport holders receive a 30-day visa-free stay on arrival, stamped into the passport at immigration
  • No paid work permitted under this visa-free entry
  • Entry is via Macao International Airport or the ferry terminal/border gate from Hong Kong or mainland China
  • Macao immigration is separate from mainland China and Hong Kong - a Chinese visa is a distinct requirement if visiting the mainland
  • Extensions of the 30-day period are possible once, for up to 30 additional days, by applying at the Public Security Police Immigration Department in Macao before the initial period expires

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for the initial 30-day visa-free entry
  • No processing time - granted on arrival
  • Extension fee (if applied for) is a modest fixed fee (roughly MOP 200-400) with same-day processing at the immigration office

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Book onward transport carefully if combining Macao with Hong Kong or mainland China - each requires separate entry clearance
  • Keep your entry stamp/slip until departure, as it may be requested at exit
  • The ferry crossing from Hong Kong (about 1 hour) is a common and convenient way to enter Macao
  • Peak seasons (Chinese New Year, Golden Week) see heavy congestion at land/ferry borders - arrive early
  • Casinos and hotels rarely require anything beyond your passport for check-in
