Visa Free

Canadian citizens can enter Kosovo visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism or business — no visa or advance authorization needed.

Guide last updated September 29, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the duration of your stay (validity should comfortably exceed your travel dates)
  • No visa application — entry is stamped directly in the passport
  • Proof of accommodation and sufficient funds may be requested at the border
  • Return or onward travel proof recommended
  • No biometrics collected at entry for visa-exempt travelers
  • Travel health insurance recommended, not mandatory

Visa types

  • No visa is required for stays within the exemption.
  • Visa-free entry: up to 90 days within any 180-day period, tourism or business, no fee
  • Work, study, or longer residence requires a residence/work permit applied for through Kosovo's Department of Citizenship, Asylum and Migration, typically after entering visa-free or through the embassy

Entry conditions

  • Stay permitted: up to 90 days within a rolling 180-day period
  • Paid employment is not permitted without a separate work permit
  • Border officers may ask to see proof of funds, accommodation, and purpose of visit
  • Extensions past 90 days are not routinely granted for tourists — plan travel within the allowed window or apply for a longer-stay permit before the 90 days lapse

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: none for the 90-day visa-free entry
  • No VFS/BLS service fee
  • Total cost: EUR 0 for entry (Kosovo uses the euro)
  • Processing time: immediate at the border
  • Residence/work permit (if needed): processing typically takes several weeks and is handled locally after arrival or via the embassy

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Track your 90/180-day count carefully if combining Kosovo with nearby Balkan or Schengen travel, since the two count separately
  • Land border crossings from Serbia can occasionally be slower — carry your itinerary and hotel confirmation in case asked
  • Cash (euros) is preferred outside Pristina; card acceptance is improving but not universal
  • Check Global Affairs Canada's current advisory, particularly regarding the northern border region, before finalizing an itinerary
  • If you plan to stay for work or study, start the residence permit process well ahead of the 90-day limit
