Indonesia Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa on Arrival

Canadian citizens can obtain a Visa on Arrival for Indonesia, available at major airports and seaports for around USD 35 (or IDR 500,000), valid for 30 days and extendable once.

Guide last updated September 29, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival date
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Proof of sufficient funds (USD 2,000 equivalent is sometimes cited as a guideline, though rarely checked strictly)
  • No advance photo required for on-arrival purchase, though a digital photo may be requested if applying via the eVOA online portal beforehand
  • Biometrics: fingerprint and photo captured at the immigration counter on arrival
  • Travel health insurance: recommended, not mandatory

Visa types

  • Visa on Arrival (VOA): single entry, 30 days, extendable once for another 30 days (total 60 days), fee approximately IDR 500,000 (about USD 35)
  • Electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VOA): same terms as the physical VOA but purchased online in advance via evisa.imigrasi.go.id, then confirmed with a QR code on arrival
  • Regular visit visa (for longer stays, business, or specific purposes) requires application through an Indonesian embassy/consulate before travel and is not covered by the VOA

Visa on arrival

  • Available at major international airports (Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta, Bali Ngurah Rai, Surabaya) and select seaports
  • Steps: complete arrival card, proceed to the VOA counter (or scan the e-VOA QR code purchased online), pay the fee, receive a passport sticker or stamp with a 30-day validity
  • Fee: IDR 500,000 (approximately USD 35), payable in cash (Indonesian rupiah preferred, other major currencies sometimes accepted with less favorable rates) or, for e-VOA, by card online in advance
  • Queue tips: e-VOA purchased online before travel avoids the on-arrival payment queue and is recommended during peak tourist season (June-August, December-January) in Bali

Fees & processing time

  • VOA fee: IDR 500,000 (approximately USD 35)
  • e-VOA: same fee, paid online via credit/debit card, plus a minor payment gateway fee
  • Total cost estimate: USD 35-40
  • Processing time: immediate at the airport counter (a few minutes); e-VOA approval online typically within 1-3 business days before travel
  • No express/priority lane, though e-VOA effectively serves this purpose by skipping the payment queue

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Purchase the e-VOA online in advance to save time in the arrival queue, especially at Bali's airport during peak season
  • Common issues: insufficient passport validity (must have 6 months remaining) and lack of proof of onward travel
  • Extension of the 30-day VOA to 60 days total must be requested at a local immigration office before the initial 30 days expire - plan this at least a week ahead as offices can be busy
  • Overstaying incurs a fine of IDR 1,000,000 (about USD 65) per day, so track your visa expiry date carefully
