Egypt Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa on Arrival

Canadian citizens can obtain an Egypt tourist visa on arrival at major airports for USD 25, or apply in advance through Egypt's official e-Visa portal (visa2egypt.gov.eg) for added convenience.

Guide last updated September 29, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date, with at least one blank page
  • Cash (USD or EUR) to pay the visa-on-arrival fee, as card payment is not reliably accepted at the visa kiosk
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking) may be requested
  • One passport photo is sometimes requested at land borders, though generally not needed at major airports
  • Travel health insurance is recommended

Visa types

  • Tourist visa on arrival: single entry, valid for a stay of up to 30 days; fee USD 25
  • e-Visa (pre-arrival online application via visa2egypt.gov.eg): single entry, 30-day stay, fee USD 25, plus a multiple-entry option (up to 90 days total presence) for USD 60
  • Multiple-entry visa: also available in advance through the Egyptian Embassy in Ottawa for those needing several entries over a longer period

Visa on arrival

  • On arrival at Cairo, Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, or other major international airports, purchase a visa stamp from the bank kiosk located before immigration control
  • Pay the USD 25 fee in cash, receive a visa stamp/sticker, then proceed to immigration for passport stamping
  • The process typically takes 10-20 minutes depending on airport traffic
  • Alternatively, apply through the official e-Visa portal (visa2egypt.gov.eg) before departure: create an account, upload passport details and a photo, pay online by credit card, and receive an approval letter by email to present on arrival, which can save time versus the cash kiosk queue
  • Land and sea border crossings (e.g., from Israel via Taba) may have different visa arrangements — confirm before relying on visa-on-arrival at these points

Fees & processing time

  • Visa on arrival: USD 25 cash, processed on the spot in 10-20 minutes
  • Single-entry e-Visa: USD 25, processed online typically within 3-7 business days
  • Multiple-entry e-Visa: USD 60, similar processing time
  • No separate service fee at the airport kiosk beyond the visa cost itself

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Apply for the e-Visa a week or more before departure if you prefer to avoid the arrival queue, especially during peak tourist season
  • Carry small USD or EUR bills for the on-arrival option, since kiosks often lack change for large denominations
  • If visiting the Sinai-only resorts (Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab) for under 15 days, a free Sinai-only entry permit may apply instead of the standard visa — check current rules with your airline or the e-Visa portal, as they periodically change
  • Register your trip with Global Affairs Canada, and review advisories for specific regions, as security guidance varies notably between Sinai, the Nile Valley, and border areas
  • Keep a printed copy of your e-Visa approval or on-arrival receipt with your travel documents for the full trip, as it may be checked at hotels or on departure
