Ecuador Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Canadian citizens can enter Ecuador visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days per calendar year, with a T-3 tourist stamp issued on arrival — no advance visa application is required.

Guide last updated September 29, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date
  • Proof of return or onward travel
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host address)
  • Proof of sufficient funds may be requested, though rarely checked for Canadian tourists
  • If traveling to the Galápagos Islands: a Transit Control Card (TCT) purchased before boarding your flight, and payment of the Galápagos National Park entrance fee (USD 100 for most foreign visitors) on arrival
  • Travel health insurance is recommended, and required specifically for visits to the Galápagos

Visa types

  • No visa required for tourist stays up to 90 days per calendar year (T-3 tourist category)
  • Temporary resident visa (rentista, investor, or professional categories): for stays beyond 90 days or relocation, applied for through Ecuador's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Cancillería) portal or the Ecuadorian Embassy
  • Work visa: required for any paid local employment, sponsored by an Ecuadorian employer

Entry conditions

  • Canadians receive a T-3 tourist stamp on arrival permitting up to 90 days within a calendar year (not per visit — cumulative across multiple entries in the same year)
  • Working locally is not permitted on the tourist stamp
  • Extensions beyond 90 days require applying for a temporary resident visa before the days run out; simply leaving and re-entering does not reset the 90-day annual limit
  • The Galápagos Islands have additional entry requirements (TCT card and park fee) on top of the standard mainland tourist stamp
  • Overstaying results in fines calculated per day over the limit, payable before departure

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for the visa-free stay
  • Galápagos Transit Control Card: approximately USD 20, purchased before your flight to the islands
  • Galápagos National Park entrance fee: USD 100 for most foreign visitors, payable in cash on arrival at the islands
  • No standard visa processing time applies since no application is required for the 90-day stay

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Track your cumulative days in Ecuador across the calendar year if you visit more than once, since the 90-day limit resets each January 1, not per trip
  • If planning an extended stay, start the temporary resident visa process before your 90 days are close to expiring — overstaying complicates future applications
  • Budget separately for Galápagos-specific costs (TCT card and park fee) beyond your mainland travel budget
  • Register your trip with Global Affairs Canada, and check regional advisories, particularly for border areas with Colombia
  • Carry cash in small USD bills, since Ecuador uses the US dollar as its official currency and change can be hard to find outside major cities
