Dominican Republic Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Canadian citizens can enter the Dominican Republic visa-free for up to 30 days via an online e-Ticket that has replaced the old paper tourist card — no separate visa application is required for short tourist stays.

Guide last updated September 29, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the duration of your stay (6 months validity recommended, though not strictly required)
  • Completed Dominican Republic e-Ticket (a combined immigration/customs form) submitted online before travel via eticket.migracion.gob.do
  • Proof of return or onward travel
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or resort confirmation)
  • Travel health insurance is recommended; some resort packages include it automatically
  • No visa application, photos, or biometrics required beyond the e-Ticket

Visa types

  • No visa required for tourist stays up to 30 days; the former paper "tourist card" fee is now bundled into the e-Ticket process at no extra visa charge for most nationalities including Canada
  • Business visa: required for stays involving local business activity beyond simple meetings, arranged through the Dominican Consulate in Canada
  • Residency permit: for those relocating long-term, applied for through the Dirección General de Migración after an initial entry

Entry conditions

  • Canadians are admitted for up to 30 days as tourists
  • Complete the e-Ticket online within 7 days before arrival — it replaces the old paper tourist card and immigration/customs declaration
  • Working locally is not permitted on the tourist entry
  • Extensions beyond 30 days can be arranged at the Immigration Department (Migración) for a fee based on the number of extra days, or exit and re-entry is common for longer stays
  • Overstaying incurs a fee collected at the airport on departure, scaled to the number of extra days

Fees & processing time

  • No separate visa fee — the e-Ticket is free to submit online
  • Extension fees at Migración vary by length of overstay, roughly USD 2-4 per extra day up to a cap, payable in pesos or USD at the airport on departure
  • e-Ticket submission is processed instantly online and should be completed within 7 days of arrival

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Complete the e-Ticket for every traveler, including children, before your flight — airlines may ask to see the confirmation at check-in
  • Keep a screenshot or printout of your e-Ticket QR code in case of connectivity issues at the airport
  • If you overstay even by a few days, budget for the exit fee at the airport rather than assuming it will be waived
  • Popular all-inclusive resort packages often bundle insurance and local transfers — confirm what's included before assuming you need separate travel insurance
  • Register your trip with Global Affairs Canada before departure, especially if traveling outside resort areas
