Denmark Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Canadian citizens can visit Denmark visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period under Schengen rules — no visa required for tourism or business.

Guide last updated September 29, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area
  • Proof of return or onward travel
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host address)
  • Proof of sufficient funds (a common guideline is around DKK 500/day, rarely checked for Canadians)
  • Travel health insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 is recommended
  • No visa application, photos, or biometrics required for the visa-free stay

Visa types

  • No visa required for tourism or business visits up to 90 days
  • Residence/work permit: required for longer stays, study, or employment, applied for through the New to Denmark portal (nyidanmark.dk) or the Danish Embassy in Ottawa before travel
  • ETIAS: Canadian visa-exempt travelers will need to register online before travel once the system takes effect; check current status before booking

Entry conditions

  • Canadians may stay up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the whole Schengen area, shared with all other Schengen countries visited on the same trip
  • Working is not permitted on the visa-free entry
  • Border officers at Copenhagen Airport may ask for proof of accommodation and return travel
  • Denmark's Faroe Islands and Greenland are not part of Schengen and have separate entry rules if included in your itinerary
  • Extensions beyond 90 days require an application to the Danish Immigration Service (Udlændingestyrelsen) and are only granted in exceptional circumstances

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for the visa-free stay
  • ETIAS, once required, will cost approximately EUR 7 with near-instant to a few days processing
  • No standard advance processing time applies since no visa is filed for the short stay

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Track cumulative Schengen days if combining Denmark with other EU destinations on the same trip
  • If your itinerary includes Greenland or the Faroe Islands, check their separate (non-Schengen) entry requirements in advance
  • Register your trip with Global Affairs Canada before departure
  • Keep proof of onward travel and accommodation accessible, as Copenhagen Airport occasionally conducts spot checks
  • For longer stays (study, work, family reunification), apply through New to Denmark or the embassy in Ottawa before traveling, since visa-free status cannot be converted after arrival
