Croatia Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Canadian citizens can visit Croatia visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period under Schengen rules — no visa needed for tourism or short business trips.

Guide last updated September 29, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area
  • Passport issued within the last 10 years
  • Proof of onward or return travel
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation)
  • Proof of sufficient funds (recommended minimum around EUR 100 per day of stay, though rarely checked for Canadians)
  • Travel health insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 is recommended, and can be checked at some borders
  • No visa application, photos, or biometrics required for the visa-free stay

Visa types

  • No visa required for tourism or business visits up to 90 days
  • National (long-stay) visa or residence permit: required for stays beyond 90 days, work, or study — applied for through the Croatian Embassy in Ottawa before travel
  • ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System): once fully in force, Canadian visa-exempt travelers will need to register online before travel (small fee, valid up to 3 years); check current ETIAS status before booking as the rollout timeline has shifted repeatedly

Entry conditions

  • Canadians may stay up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the entire Schengen area (Croatia included), not per country
  • Working during the visa-free stay is not permitted
  • Border officers may ask for proof of funds, accommodation, and return travel — carry printed copies
  • The 90/180 day count includes time spent in other Schengen countries on the same trip, so track your days carefully using the Schengen calculator
  • Extensions beyond 90 days are only granted in exceptional circumstances (medical emergency, force majeure) through local Croatian police (MUP)

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for the visa-free 90-day stay
  • ETIAS authorization, once required, will cost approximately EUR 7 and is processed within minutes to a few days
  • No standard processing time applies since no visa application is filed for a short stay

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Track your cumulative Schengen days if visiting multiple EU countries on the same trip — overstaying even by a day can trigger an entry ban
  • Carry travel health insurance documentation; Croatian border officers can request proof at entry
  • Register your trip with Global Affairs Canada and check for any ETIAS requirement updates before departure
  • Croatia joined the Schengen area in 2023, so land border checks with neighboring Schengen countries have been reduced, but keep your passport handy for spot checks
  • If planning a longer stay (study, work, digital nomad visa), apply at the Croatian Embassy in Ottawa well ahead, as it cannot be arranged after arrival on visa-free status
