Visa Free

Canadian citizens can enter Colombia visa-free for tourism or business for up to 90 days, extendable to a maximum of 180 days per year.

Guide last updated September 29, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the duration of your stay
  • At least one blank visa page
  • Proof of onward or return travel
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Proof of sufficient funds (rarely checked for short tourist visits)
  • No biometrics required for visa-exempt entry
  • Travel health insurance is recommended, not mandatory; yellow fever vaccination is recommended if visiting Amazon or Orinoco regions

Visa types

  • Canadian citizens do not need a visa for tourism or business visits. For other purposes:
  • Migrant visa (M visa): required for work, study, or family reunification, applied for online through the Colombian Foreign Ministry's visa portal
  • Resident visa (R visa): for long-term residence, pensioners, or investors
  • Digital nomad visa: available for remote workers employed by foreign companies, allows longer stays than the standard tourist exemption

Entry conditions

  • Maximum initial stay as a visitor: up to 90 days, at the discretion of the immigration officer
  • Total stay as a tourist cannot exceed 180 days within a calendar year
  • Employment is not permitted on the visa-exempt entry
  • Immigration stamps the passport with the permitted stay on arrival; travelers can check and manage their stay online via the Colombian Migración Colombia "Check Migración" portal
  • Extensions (Permiso de Permanencia) can be requested online through Migración Colombia before the initial period expires, for a fee

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for the visa-exempt entry
  • Entry processing at the airport takes a few minutes
  • Stay extension fee: approximately COP 155,000–200,000 (roughly USD 40–50), processed online within a few business days through Migración Colombia
  • No service/agency fee for the initial visa-exempt entry

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Use the Migración Colombia "Check Migración" app or website to verify your exact permitted stay, since it can be set below 90 days at the officer's discretion
  • Track your cumulative days if you make multiple trips to Colombia in the same calendar year, since the 180-day annual cap applies across all visits
  • Carry proof of accommodation and return travel, especially if traveling with one-way tickets (common for those continuing overland through South America)
  • If considering remote work while based in Colombia, apply for the digital nomad visa rather than relying on the tourist exemption, which does not permit any paid work even for a foreign employer
  • Request stay extensions well before expiry, since overstaying incurs fines assessed by Migración Colombia on exit
