Chile Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Canadian citizens can enter Chile visa-free for tourism or business for up to 90 days; no reciprocity fee applies to Canadian passport holders.

Guide last updated September 29, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the duration of your stay
  • At least one blank visa page
  • Proof of onward or return travel
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Proof of sufficient funds (rarely checked in practice for short tourist visits)
  • No biometrics required for visa-exempt entry (a Tourist Card/PDI arrival form is completed instead)
  • Travel health insurance is recommended, not mandatory

Visa types

  • Canadian citizens do not need a visa for tourism or business visits of up to 90 days. For other purposes:
  • Temporary residence visa: required for work, study, or family reunification stays longer than 90 days, applied for at a Chilean consulate or, in some cases, after entry via the National Migration Service
  • Work visa (subject to contract): sponsored by a Chilean employer
  • Student visa: required for enrolment exceeding the visa-exempt period

Entry conditions

  • Maximum stay: 90 days as a tourist, recorded via the Tourist Card (Tarjeta de Turismo) issued on arrival — keep this card, as it must be surrendered on departure
  • Employment is not permitted on the visa-exempt entry
  • Immigration stamps the passport and issues the tourist card at the port of entry; losing the tourist card requires a police report before departure
  • A one-time extension of up to 90 days can be requested at the National Migration Service (Servicio Nacional de Migraciones) for a fee, generally processed within a few weeks
  • Overstaying without an extension can result in fines and complications on future entries

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for the visa-exempt entry (Canada is not currently subject to Chile's reciprocity fee, unlike some other nationalities)
  • Entry processing at the airport takes a few minutes
  • Tourist card extension fee: approximately USD 100, processed within a few weeks at the National Migration Service
  • No service/agency fee for the initial visa-exempt entry

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Keep your Tourist Card safe throughout your trip — it is required at departure, and a lost card means extra paperwork (police report) before you can leave
  • Carry proof of accommodation and return travel for the arrival interview, especially at Santiago's international airport
  • If you plan to stay longer than 90 days, apply for the extension well before your card expires, as processing can take several weeks
  • Chile has strict agricultural import rules — declare any food items on the customs form to avoid fines
  • If moving toward work or long-term residence, start the temporary residence visa process before arrival, since converting from a tourist entry involves additional steps
