Brunei Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Canadian citizens can visit Brunei visa-free for up to 90 days for tourism or business purposes.

Guide last updated September 29, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date
  • At least one blank visa page
  • Confirmed onward or return ticket
  • Proof of accommodation for your stay
  • Sufficient funds to cover your visit (no fixed minimum specified, but be ready to show a bank statement or cash)
  • No biometrics required for visa-exempt entry
  • Travel health insurance is recommended but not mandatory

Visa types

  • Canadian passport holders do not need a visa for short tourism or business visits of up to 90 days. Other visa categories exist for longer or different purposes:
  • Social visit pass: for stays beyond 90 days visiting family, applied for at the Department of Immigration and National Registration
  • Employment pass: sponsored by a Brunei employer, required for any paid work
  • Student pass: sponsored by an educational institution for courses exceeding the visa-exempt period

Entry conditions

  • Maximum stay under the visa exemption: 90 days
  • Employment of any kind is not permitted on the visa-free entry
  • On arrival, present your passport and return ticket; immigration will stamp the permitted duration of stay, which can be less than 90 days at the officer's discretion
  • Note Brunei enforces strict customs rules — alcohol import is limited (2 bottles of liquor and 12 cans of beer per adult) and possession of illegal drugs carries severe penalties
  • Extensions beyond the stamped period can be requested at the Immigration Department in Bandar Seri Begawan before expiry

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for the visa-exempt entry
  • Entry processing at the airport takes only a few minutes
  • Extension of stay fee (if applicable): a modest administrative fee is charged at the Immigration Department, typically processed within a few working days
  • No service/agency costs since no advance visa application is required

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Since no visa is needed, focus on having your return ticket and hotel confirmation ready for the immigration officer
  • Respect Brunei's strict customs and Sharia-influenced laws — declare any alcohol at customs and note personal possession limits
  • Dress modestly, particularly when visiting mosques or government buildings
  • If your visit will extend past 90 days or involve any paid work, arrange the correct pass in advance rather than assuming an extension will be granted
  • Direct flights from Canada are rare; most itineraries connect through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, or Hong Kong — factor in transit visa rules for those stopovers if applicable
