Brazil Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

e-Visa / eTA

Canadian citizens need an e-Visa for Brazil — apply online at the official Brazilian consular e-visa portal; fee is about USD 80.90, processing typically 5 business days.

Guide last updated September 29, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay, with at least one blank page
  • A digital passport-style photo (JPEG, plain light background, taken within the last 6 months)
  • Scanned photo page of your passport
  • Proof of onward/return travel (flight itinerary)
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host's address)
  • Proof of funds (recent bank statement)
  • No biometrics or in-person appointment required — the e-visa is a fully online application
  • Travel health insurance is strongly recommended, though not a formal requirement for entry

Visa types

  • The Brazilian e-visa (VIVER/e-Visa system) issued to Canadian citizens covers:
  • Tourist (VITUR): sightseeing, family visits; valid 10 years for multiple entries (subject to renewal of documentation), maximum stay 90 days per entry, up to 180 days total per year
  • Business (VITEM II): meetings, conferences, contract negotiation; same validity and stay rules as tourist
  • Transit: for layovers requiring an airport change, generally not needed for through-airside transit under 24 hours
  • Longer stays for work, study, or family reunification require a separate long-stay (VITEM) visa applied for at a Brazilian consulate, not through the e-visa portal.

How to apply online

  • Apply at the official Brazilian government e-visa portal (gov.br consular e-visa service), not third-party sites
  • Create an account, complete the online form with passport and travel details, and upload your photo and passport scan
  • Pay the fee online by credit card (about USD 80.90, charged in BRL equivalent)
  • Processing is typically completed within 5 business days, though it can be same-day to a few days depending on volume
  • Approval is emailed as a PDF e-visa; print it and carry it with your passport, though border officials can also verify it electronically
  • Apply at least 2–3 weeks before travel to allow buffer time for any requests for additional documents

Fees & processing time

  • E-visa fee: approximately USD 80.90 (charged as the BRL equivalent, includes the consular fee)
  • No separate service center fee since applications are submitted directly on the government portal
  • Standard processing: about 5 business days
  • No official expedited/rush option; delays can occur during peak travel seasons (Brazilian summer, Carnival), so apply early
  • Total cost is just the visa fee — budget for possible bank card foreign-transaction fees

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Apply at least 3 weeks ahead of departure, especially around Carnival (February) and the December–January peak season
  • The most common rejection/delay reason is a blurry or non-compliant photo, or a scanned passport page that is cropped or hard to read — follow the photo specs exactly
  • Double-check that your passport number and travel dates match your flight booking, since mismatches trigger manual review delays
  • Apply directly through the official gov.br portal; unofficial third-party "visa agency" sites often charge large markups for the same free-to-file process
  • If your trip changes, the e-visa is tied to your passport, not specific dates, so multiple entries within the 90/180-day rule are fine without reapplying
