Guide last updated September 28, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry
  • Completed online application on the ASAN Visa (evisa.gov.az) portal
  • A digital passport-style photo uploaded during the application
  • Return or onward ticket may be requested at the border
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking) recommended to have on hand
  • Biometrics: not required for the e-visa
  • Travel health insurance: recommended, not mandatory for tourist e-visas

Visa types

  • Simplified e-Visa (tourist/business): single entry, valid 90 days from issue, up to 30 days stay, USD 20
  • Ordinary e-Visa: for other purposes including longer business trips, similar 30-day stay, processed through the same portal
  • Multiple-entry visas require application through an Azerbaijani embassy or consulate rather than the online portal

How to apply online

  • Apply at the official portal evisa.gov.az (avoid third-party sites that charge extra)
  • Steps: register an account, fill in passport and travel details, upload a digital photo, pay the fee online, and receive the e-visa by email as a PDF
  • Fee: USD 20 for the simplified e-visa, payable by credit/debit card
  • Processing time: usually within 3 business days, though many applications are approved within 24 hours
  • Approval arrives as a PDF e-visa to print or show on your phone at the border

Fees & processing time

  • E-visa fee: USD 20
  • No additional VFS/BLS service fee, application is direct through the government portal
  • Total cost estimate: about USD 20-25 including any card processing charges
  • Standard processing time: up to 3 business days
  • Express/priority option: not officially offered, but early application avoids any delay risk

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Apply at least a week before travel to allow for any processing delays
  • Common rejection reasons include mismatched passport details and low-resolution or non-compliant photos
  • Only use the official evisa.gov.az site; unofficial sites charge higher fees for the same service
  • Print a copy of the e-visa PDF as a backup in case of connectivity issues at the airport
  • The e-visa cannot be extended; travelers needing a longer stay must apply for a different visa category through the Azerbaijani embassy
