What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from date of arrival, with at least one blank page
  • No advance application required, but filling the online arrival form (nepaliss.immigration.gov.np) beforehand speeds up the airport queue
  • A recent passport-size color photo with a white background - bring 2 in case the on-site camera is down
  • Proof of onward or return travel may be requested at the immigration desk
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the stay (rarely checked, but keep it available)
  • Travel health insurance is not mandatory but strongly recommended given trekking and altitude risk
  • No biometrics beyond a photo and fingerprint scan taken at the counter

  • Tourist visa on arrival, multiple entry: 15 days for USD 30, 30 days for USD 50, 90 days for USD 125
  • The same visa can be extended at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu for stays beyond 90 days
  • Business, student and work visas must be applied for in advance - Nepal has no resident embassy in Algiers, so these route through the Nepali mission in New Delhi

Visa on arrival

  • Available at Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu) and the main land border crossings with India (Kakarbhitta, Birgunj, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj)
  • Steps: complete the arrival form (online pre-registration recommended), have a photo taken at the kiosk if none was submitted online, pay the fee at the bank counter inside immigration, then present the receipt at the visa counter for the stamp
  • Fees are collected in USD cash or another major convertible currency - Nepalese rupees are not accepted for the visa fee; a card machine exists but is often out of service
  • Queues at Tribhuvan Airport can run 45-90 minutes during evening arrival banks; the pre-registration QR lane is noticeably faster

  • Counter processing typically takes 15-30 minutes once in the correct queue

Tips for Algeria travelers

  • Complete the online arrival form 72 hours before landing to skip the paper-form station
  • Carry small USD bills - the counter often cannot make change for a single large note
  • As Nepal has no embassy in Algeria, confirm visa-on-arrival eligibility with the Nepali mission in New Delhi if traveling on an emergency or laissez-passer document rather than an ordinary passport
  • The 90-day visa is most economical for long treks (Annapurna Circuit, Everest Base Camp) that run 3-4 weeks plus buffer days
