Algerian citizens need a Cuban tourist card (tarjeta de turista) or e-visa, arranged online or through the airline/travel agency before departure - cost around USD 20-30, usually issued within a few days.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry
  • Completed tourist card / e-visa application (online via the Cuban consular e-services portal, or through your airline/travel agent)
  • Digital or printed passport-style photo, if requested by the issuing channel
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or Cuban host details, including casa particular reservations)
  • Round-trip flight ticket
  • Travel health/medical insurance valid in Cuba - checked on arrival and can be purchased at the airport if you do not already have it
  • No in-person biometrics required for the tourist card; entry stamp given on arrival

Visa types

  • Tourist card (tarjeta de turista): single entry, valid for a stay of up to 30 days, extendable once for another 30 days inside Cuba, fee approx USD 20-30
  • Business e-visa: for commercial visits, requires an invitation from a Cuban entity, fee approx USD 30-50
  • Journalist/official visas: handled separately through the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, not applicable to standard tourist travel

How to apply online

  • Apply through the official Cuban consular portal (consularcuba or the relevant e-visa/tourist card service) or purchase the tourist card via your airline or travel agency before departure
  • Provide your passport details, travel dates and accommodation information
  • Pay the fee online by card, or in person if purchasing through a travel agency/airline counter
  • Processing is typically fast - often same-day to a few days when applied online in advance
  • Print the tourist card/e-visa confirmation and present it with your passport at check-in and on arrival in Cuba

  • Tourist card fee: approx USD 20-30 (varies by issuing channel - airline, travel agency, or consular portal)
  • No separate VFS-style service fee, though travel agencies may add a small handling charge
  • Total estimated cost: USD 20-40 including insurance verification
  • Standard processing: same day to a few days when booked online ahead of travel
  • Express service is generally not needed given the fast standard turnaround, but apply at least a week before departure to avoid last-minute issues

Tips for Algeria travelers

  • Arrange your tourist card well before your flight - some airlines require it to be shown at check-in, not just on arrival
  • Carry proof of travel health insurance, as it is checked at Cuban immigration and can be purchased on the spot if missing, at extra cost and inconvenience
  • Keep both a printed and digital copy of your tourist card, since it must be surrendered on departure
  • US dollar cash is not always straightforward to use in Cuba due to banking restrictions - plan currency exchange or card options in advance
  • To extend your stay beyond 30 days, apply at an immigration office (Inmigracion y Extranjeria) inside Cuba before the tourist card expires
