Algerian citizens need a visa to enter the Central African Republic - apply at the CAR embassy or nearest accredited mission before travel; fee around XAF 50,000 (about USD 85), processing 5-10 working days.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates, with 2 blank pages
  • Completed CAR visa application form (available from the embassy)
  • 2 recent passport-size photos, white background
  • Invitation letter from a host in the CAR, or hotel booking confirmation
  • Proof of onward/return ticket
  • Bank statement or proof of sufficient funds for the length of stay
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate - mandatory, checked on arrival at Bangui M'Poko Airport
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and photo) are collected in person at the embassy when you submit your application

Visa types

  • Tourist visa: single entry, valid up to 90 days from issue, max stay 30 days, fee approx XAF 50,000
  • Business visa: single or multiple entry, valid up to 6 months, requires an invitation letter from a CAR-registered company, fee approx XAF 60,000-80,000
  • Transit visa: for travelers continuing to a third country, valid 72 hours, fee approx XAF 20,000

How to apply

  • Since Algeria does not host a CAR embassy, apply through the nearest CAR diplomatic mission (commonly via Paris or Cairo) or through an honorary consul if designated
  • Submit the application form, passport, photos, invitation letter and yellow fever certificate in person or by courier
  • Pay the visa fee in cash or bank transfer as instructed by the mission
  • Standard processing takes 5-10 working days; some missions offer expedited service in 48-72 hours for an extra fee
  • Collect the visa in person, or have it couriered back with your passport

Tips for Algeria travelers

  • Apply at least 3-4 weeks ahead since Algeria has no local CAR mission and applications typically route through a third country
  • Get your yellow fever vaccination at least 10 days before departure - it is checked on arrival and missing certificates can mean denied entry or on-the-spot vaccination
  • A vague or missing invitation letter is the most common reason for delay or rejection - use a detailed letter with the host's ID and contact details
  • Carry printed hotel and return-ticket confirmations even if not formally required, as border officials may ask for them
  • Extensions of stay must be arranged in Bangui at the Directorate General of Immigration before the visa expires
