  • Fee: There is no separate visa fee for tourists. However, a mandatory Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of USD 100 per person per night is applicable. This SDF covers accommodation, internal taxes, tourism access, and government services.
  • Business Visa:
  • Official Name: Business Visa
  • Validity: Issued for the duration of the business engagement.
  • Max Stay: Up to 90 days.
  • Entry: Single entry.
  • Fee: USD 40, plus the SDF of USD 100 per person per night.
  • Other Visa Categories (Student, Work, etc.):
  • These visas are processed through specific government channels and require sponsorship from a Bhutanese institution or employer. Details and fees vary significantly and are determined by the sponsoring entity and the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs.

Application process

  • For Tourist Visas:
  • Step 1: Contact a licensed Bhutanese tour operator. You cannot apply directly for a tourist visa. The tour operator will arrange your entire trip, including visa clearance.
  • Step 2: Submit your passport details and chosen itinerary to the tour operator.
  • Step 3: Pay the required package cost, which includes the SDF, accommodation, guide, transport, meals, and the visa processing fee.
  • Step 4: The tour operator will then submit your visa application to the Department of Immigration, Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs, Government of Bhutan.
  • Step 5: Once approved, a visa clearance letter will be issued to you and your tour operator.
  • Step 6: You will present this clearance letter along with your passport and photographs at the port of entry (e.g., Paro International Airport).
  • Step 7: The visa will be stamped in your passport by the immigration officials.
  • Visa Fee (Tourist): No separate visa fee; only the SDF applies.
  • Processing Time (Tourist): Typically takes 5-7 working days after the tour operator submits the application. It is recommended to apply at least 2-3 weeks in advance.
  • Note: The MFA website (mfa.gov.bt) provides general information but the actual application for tourism is facilitated by tour operators.

  • Sustainable Development Fee (SDF): USD 100 per person per night of stay.
  • Visa Fee (for Business, etc.): USD 40.
  • Total Cost Estimate (Tourist): The cost varies significantly based on the tour package chosen, but it will include the SDF, accommodation, guide, transport, meals, and potentially other services. Expect a minimum of USD 200-250 per person per day including the SDF.
  • Standard Processing Time: For tourist visa clearance, allow 5-7 working days once your tour operator submits the application.
  • Express/Priority Option: Not typically available for tourist visas as the process is standardized through tour operators. For other visa types, inquire with the relevant sponsoring institution.

Tips for Albania travelers
