Uganda Visa for Afghanistan Citizens 2026

Afghanistan citizens can apply for Uganda's e-Visa (Tourist, Business, Transit, Medical) online at https://visas.immigration.go.ug/; processing takes about 3–5 working days; visa fees start at USD 50 for Tourist and up to USD 100 for Business, with a 90-day validity.

What you need

  • Passport validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Uganda and have at least 1 blank page.
  • Specific forms: There is no separate paper form; apply online at https://visas.immigration.go.ug/. No DS-160 or embassy forms are required.
  • Financial proof: There is no published fixed minimum balance for the e-visa application. You may be asked to show funds if requested, but no standard amount is listed.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Have confirmed hotel bookings and a return/onward ticket; these documents may be requested during your application or at entry.
  • Photo spec: Upload a recent color passport photo. Recommended size is 35x45 mm (3.5x4.5 cm); background white; head centered; no hats, sunglasses; image file should be JPG or PNG with at least 600x600 pixels.
  • Biometrics: Biometric data (photo and fingerprints) are collected as part of the e-visa process. You may be asked to visit a visa processing center for fingerprints if required.
  • Travel health insurance: Not mandatory for the e-visa, but it is strongly recommended. Yellow fever vaccination is required for travellers coming from certain countries; Afghanistan is not a risk country, but carry any required vaccination certificates if your travel history includes risk regions.

  • Tourist e-Visa: Official name: Tourist Visa (e-Visa). Validity: 90 days from date of issue. Max stay: 90 days per visit. Entry: Single. Approx. fee: USD 50 (about UGX 185,000).
  • Business e-Visa: Official name: Business Visa (e-Visa). Validity: 90 days from date of issue. Max stay: 90 days per visit. Entry: Single. Approx. fee: USD 100 (about UGX 370,000).
  • Transit e-Visa: Official name: Transit Visa (e-Visa). Validity: 3 days. Max stay: 3 days. Entry: Single. Approx. fee: USD 20 (about UGX 74,000).
  • Medical e-Visa: Official name: Medical Visa (e-Visa). Validity: 90 days. Max stay: 90 days. Entry: Single. Approx. fee: USD 60 (about UGX 222,000).
  • Note: The official Uganda e-visa portal may list additional categories (e.g., Conference or Student). Always check the portal for the exact list and names available to Afghan nationals.

How to apply online

  • How to apply online: 1) Open https://visas.immigration.go.ug/ and create your account or log in. 2) Choose the visa type you need (Tourist, Business, Transit, or Medical). 3) Complete the applicant form with personal data, passport details, and travel plans. 4) Upload required documents: scanned bio page of passport, a recent photo, travel itinerary and hotel bookings, and any supporting documents. 5) Pay the visa fee with USD or UGX using a credit/debit card or other available method. 6) Submit the application and wait for processing (about 3–5 working days). 7) You will receive the e-Visa grant notice in your portal and by email; print a copy of the e-Visa to present on arrival. 8) Upon arrival, present the e-Visa grant notice and your passport to immigration.

  • VFS/BLS service fee: not applicable for e-Visa.

Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: Apply at least 2–3 weeks before travel to cover processing time and potential delays.
  • Common rejection reasons for Afghanistan applicants specifically: incomplete data or documents, passport data mismatch, expired passport, inconsistent travel history, poor quality photograph, or failure to meet entry health requirements such as vaccination certificates.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: For e-Visa, use the official online portal; avoid unofficial agents and always verify updates on the official site.
