Tanzania Visa for Afghanistan Citizens 2026

Afghan citizens must obtain an e-visa to Tanzania — apply online at https://eservices.immigration.go.tz/; Tourist visa USD 50 (single-entry), Business visa USD 100 (multiple-entry, up to 12 months).

What you need

  • Passport validity: Passport must be valid for at least six (6) months from the date of entry into Tanzania, with at least one blank visa page (some border posts may require two blank pages).
  • Specific forms: There is no separate paper form for Tanzania e-visa; complete the online application on the official portal eservices.immigration.go.tz and upload scanned copies of your passport bio page and a passport-style photo.
  • Financial proof: The online portal does not always require a bank statement, but border authorities may request proof of funds on arrival. Carry evidence of adequate funds for your stay (for example a recent bank statement or sponsor letter showing at least USD 500 per person).
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Provide evidence of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter for business) and a return or onward ticket.
  • Photo spec: Upload a recent passport-style photo (taken within the last 6 months) with a plain white background; typical size 2x2 inches (51x51 mm) and high resolution.
  • Biometrics: Biometric data (fingerprints and photo) are collected on arrival at the port of entry, even if you hold an e-visa approval.
  • Travel health insurance: Not mandatory for the visa, but travel health insurance is strongly recommended.

Visa types

  • Tourist visa (Tanzania Tourist Visa): Official name: Tourist visa. Validity: 90 days from issue. Max stay per visit: 90 days. Entry: Single-entry. Approximate fee: USD 50.
  • Business visa (Tanzania Business Visa): Official name: Business visa. Validity: 12 months from issue. Max stay per visit: 90 days. Entry: Multiple-entry. Approximate fee: USD 100.
  • Transit visa: Official name: Transit visa. Validity: 72 hours from issue. Max stay per visit: 72 hours. Entry: Single-entry. Approximate fee: USD 50.
  • Student visa: Not available via the online e-visa system; requires processing through a Tanzanian embassy/consulate with appropriate education-related documents.
  • Work visa: Not available via the e-visa portal; requires work permit and separate embassy/consulate processing.

How to apply online

  • How to apply online: Go to the official portal at https://eservices.immigration.go.tz/ and create an account.
  • Steps:
  • Log in and select a visa type (Tourist or Business).
  • Complete applicant details and upload required documents (passport bio page, passport photo, hotel booking or business invitation letter, itinerary, and return/onward ticket).
  • Pay the visa fee in USD and any applicable local currency; you will see payment options on the portal.
  • Submit the application and wait for processing (typical processing time is 2–5 working days).
  • You will receive the e-visa approval letter by email if approved; print it or save it to present at border control.
  • How approval arrives: e-visa approval is emailed to the applicant and must be printed and presented at Tanzanian border control along with your passport.
  • On arrival: Carry your printed approval, your passport, and the documents listed in your application (hotel details or invitation letter, return/onward ticket, etc.).

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fees (USD): Tourist visa 50; Business visa 100.
  • Local currency equivalent: Approximate converts (rates vary): 50 USD ≈ 115,000 TZS; 100 USD ≈ 230,000 TZS.
  • E-visa platform service fee: Approximately USD 15 (subject to portal terms at time of application).
  • Total cost estimate: Tourist visa ≈ USD 65 (visa + service fee); Business visa ≈ USD 115 (visa + service fee).
  • Processing time: Typical 2–5 working days after submission; weekends and Tanzanian public holidays may extend processing.
  • Express/priority option: If available, pay the express fee on the portal for expedited processing (rates vary by option and have to be checked on the portal).
  • Notes: Fees and processing times can change; always verify on the official eservices portal at the time of application.

Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • Apply well in advance: Start the e-visa application at least 14–21 days before your intended travel date to accommodate delays.
  • Common reasons for rejection: Passport validity less than six months, insufficient funds or inconsistent proof of funds, lack of confirmed accommodation or business invitation, travel itinerary that does not match the visa type, or discrepancies between the applicant’s details and the passport data.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy: For Tanzania e-visa you should apply online via the official eservices portal; VFS/BLS services are typically not involved for the e-visa itself. If you need a sticker visa (not common via e-visa), contact the Tanzanian embassy or consulate listed in their official channels.
  • Travel advisories: Check current travel advisories from your government before traveling (and keep an eye on updates from the Tanzanian government); ensure you comply with any health or safety requirements in force at the time of travel.
  • Extensions inside Tanzania: If you need to extend your stay beyond the initial visa period, you must apply for a visa extension through Tanzania Immigration Services before your current visa expires; processing times and fees vary and depend on the extension type.
