What you need

  • Passport validity: passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry and have at least 1 blank page.
  • Specific forms: there is no separate visa form to download; the e-visa is applied for online through the ICA portal.
  • Financial proof: there is no published minimum bank balance required for the e-visa; you should have funds to cover your stay.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: not required for the application but carrying hotel confirmation and a return or onward ticket is recommended.
  • Photo spec: digital photo to upload should be 35 by 45 mm, white background, taken within the last 3 months, full face and eyes open, no sunglasses, no head coverings unless for religious reasons with face visible.
  • Biometrics: Biometrics are not normally required for the online e-visa submission; if asked to provide biometrics, you will be instructed by the portal or consulate.
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory for entry but recommended.

Visa types

  • Tourist e-Visa (Tourist): Official name e-Visa Tourist; Validity 30 days from date of first entry; Max stay 30 days; Entry: Single; Approx fee SGD 30 (about USD 22).
  • Business e-Visa (Business): Official name e-Visa Business; Validity 30 days; Max stay 30 days; Entry: Single; Approx fee SGD 40 (about USD 29).
  • Student e-Visa: Official name Student e-Visa; Validity: duration of the course; Max stay: up to the course length; Entry: Single; Approx fee SGD 50 (about USD 37).
  • Work e-Visa: Official name Work e-Visa is not issued under the online e-visa program; Work passes are employer sponsored and typically processed outside the e-visa system; Not available as a direct online e-visa; processing times vary.

Application process

  • How to apply online: Visit the official ICA e-visa portal at https://www.ica.gov.sg/enter-transit-depart/entering-singapore
  • Steps: create an account or log in, complete the online application form, select the visa type, upload required documents (passport copy, digital photo, travel details), pay the visa fee online, submit the application.
  • After submission: you will receive a processing notification; processing time is typically 3–5 working days after submission.
  • How approval arrives: if approved, an e-visa will be emailed to the address provided and/or available to download from the portal; print the e-visa and present it with your passport on arrival.

  • Visa fee (local currency): Tourist SGD 30; Business SGD 40; Student SGD 50; Work not applicable for online e-visa (employer-sponsored).
  • Approximate USD equivalents: Tourist about USD 22; Business about USD 29; Student about USD 37.
  • VFS/BLS service fee: Not applicable for this online e-visa route.
  • Total cost estimate: SGD 30–50 depending on visa type.
  • Standard processing time: 3–5 working days after submission.
  • Express/priority option: Not available for the standard e-visa route.

Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: aim to apply at least 7–14 days before planned travel to account for processing and any additional checks.
  • Common rejection reasons for Afghanistan applicants specifically: passport validity shorter than 6 months, insufficient blank pages, photo not meeting specifications, discrepancies in name or date of birth, inconsistent travel details, or failing to meet entry requirements.
