Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: Since this is a visa on arrival process, there is no pre-arrival online application to obtain approval; ensure you have all required documents ready before travel and allow extra time at the airport.
  • Common rejection reasons for Afghanistan applicants specifically: insufficient funds for the stay, passport validity under 6 months remaining, insufficient blank pages, lack of a clear onward/return ticket, incomplete accommodation details, missing or incompatible travel documents, or failure to meet health/vaccination entry requirements.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: Visa on arrival is processed directly at the port of entry; there is generally no VFS/BLS intermediary for this process; you may still consider an online e-visa (if eligible) via migration.gov.rw for pre-trip planning.
  • Travel advisories or bilateral notes: Check your home country’s travel advisory and Rwanda's official travel advisories; verify entry requirements before travel and confirm border crossing policies on migration.gov.rw.
  • Extension options inside Rwanda: Extensions may be possible by applying at the Department of Immigration and Emigration offices in Kigali before your current visa expires; extension durations and fees vary; consult migration.gov.rw for exact steps and forms.
