What you need

  • Passport validity: Passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the date you intend to depart from the Schengen area, issued within the last 10 years, with at least two blank visa pages.\n- Specific forms: Schengen visa application form to be completed online on https://www.vistos.mne.gov.pt/; print and sign.\n- Financial proof: Evidence of funds to cover the stay. There is no fixed amount published by the Portuguese authorities; provide bank statements for the last 3–6 months and/or proof of income and sponsorship demonstrating sufficient funds to cover travel and living costs for the duration of the stay.\n- Accommodation and return ticket: Proof of accommodation for the entire stay (hotel bookings, rental contract, or invitation letter) and a round-trip flight reservation or confirmed itinerary.\n- Photo specifications: One recent color passport photo (not older than 6 months), size 35x45 mm, white background, standard headshot without uniform; meet EU photo rules.\n- Biometrics: Yes; fingerprints and photo are collected at the visa application center/embassy during the appointment.\n- Travel health insurance: Required; travel medical insurance with minimum coverage of 30,000 EUR for medical emergencies and repatriation, valid for all Schengen states for the duration of stay.

Validity: long-term; multiple entry; max stay depends on permit; approximate fee: 99 EUR.

How to apply (Sticker visa)

  • How to apply: 1) Open https://www.vistos.mne.gov.pt/ and start a visa application; 2) Create an account and complete the Schengen visa application form; 3) Gather required documents and upload them on the portal; 4) Book an appointment at the Portuguese embassy/consulate serving Afghanistan and attend in person; 5) Submit documents and provide biometrics; 6) Pay the visa fee and any visa center service charges; 7) Wait for the decision (typical processing 15 days; up to 30 days); 8) If approved, the passport will be returned with the visa; 9) An interview may be requested; 10) Ensure you have your printed application form and supporting documents in the appointment.
