Afghanistan citizens require a visa to enter Pakistan and must apply through the official online portal for an e-Visa, with a standard processing time of 15-30 working days.

What you need

  • Passport: Must be valid for at least six months beyond the intended period of stay.
  • Digital Photograph: Recent, clear, passport-sized photograph (2x2 inches or 51x51 mm) with a white background. Face should be centered, and you should be looking directly at the camera.
  • Proof of Financial Means: Bank statements for the last three to six months showing sufficient funds to cover your stay in Pakistan. The exact minimum amount is not specified but should reflect reasonable expenses for accommodation, food, and local travel.
  • Accommodation Proof: Hotel booking confirmation or a letter of invitation from a host in Pakistan, along with their CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card) copy and proof of address.
  • Return Ticket: Confirmed return or onward ticket.
  • Visa Application Form: Completed online through the official portal.
  • Biometrics: Required. Applicants will be called for fingerprinting and photograph submission at designated centers once their initial online application is processed and pre-approved.
  • Travel Health Insurance: Recommended, but not strictly mandatory for all visa types. It is advisable to have comprehensive travel insurance covering medical emergencies and repatriation.

How to apply online

  • Visit the official Pakistan e-Visa portal: https://onlinemfa.gov.pk/
  • Create an account and log in.
  • Select the appropriate visa category (e.g., Visit Visa - Tourist).
  • Fill out the online application form accurately and completely. Ensure all personal details match your passport.
  • Upload required documents: digital photograph, passport scan, invitation letter (if applicable), accommodation proof, etc.
  • Pay the visa fee online. The fee is typically in USD. Payment methods usually include major credit/debit cards.
  • Submit the application.
  • After initial online submission and review, you may receive an approval to proceed to biometric enrollment. You will be notified to visit a designated biometric enrollment center for fingerprinting and photograph submission.
  • Once biometrics are successfully submitted and the visa is finally approved, you will receive an electronic visa grant notice (eVG). Print this notice and carry it with you for travel.
  • Processing Time: Standard processing takes approximately 15-30 working days. Expedited processing is not generally available for e-Visas.

Fees & processing time

  • e-Visa Fee (Tourist): Approximately USD 35 (subject to change by the Pakistani government).
  • e-Visa Fee (Business): Approximately USD 70 (subject to change).
  • VFS/BLS Service Fee: Not applicable for the e-Visa application as it is processed directly through the government portal. Biometric enrollment may have a separate nominal fee at the enrollment center.

  • Standard Processing Time: 15-30 working days.
  • Express/Priority Option: Not available for e-Visa applications.

Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • Apply Well in Advance: Due to processing times and potential delays, it is strongly recommended to apply for your e-Visa at least 6-8 weeks before your intended travel date.
  • Common Rejection Reasons: Incomplete or inaccurate application details, insufficient proof of financial means, unclear or invalid supporting documents, and previous visa overstays or immigration violations in Pakistan can lead to rejection. Ensure all information is consistent with your passport.
  • e-Visa vs. Direct Embassy Application: For most tourist and business stays, the e-Visa portal is the primary and recommended method. For longer stays or specialized visas (e.g., employment, student), a direct application at the Pakistan Embassy or Consulate in Afghanistan or a third country may be necessary, involving a more extensive process and documentation.
