What you need

  • Passport validity: Passport must be valid for at least 6 months from date of entry and have at least 1 blank page.
  • Specific forms: No physical forms; apply online via the official portal https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/ and upload required documents.
  • Financial proof: Bank statements for the last 3 months showing at least USD 500 equivalent; if sponsored, include a sponsor letter and sponsor's bank statements.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Proof of accommodation for the entire stay (hotel booking or invitation letter) and a return/onward flight ticket.
  • Photo spec: A passport photo (35 x 45 mm) with a plain white background, taken within the last 6 months; file format JPEG/PNG; head centered; no glasses sunglasses.
  • Biometrics: The online application requires a clear passport scan and photograph; biometric data may be collected at entry or as requested by immigration.
  • Travel health insurance: Not mandatory but strongly recommended.

  • Note: Afghanistan citizens should apply for one of these e-Visa categories online; other categories (e.g., student/work) may require embassy processing and may not be available online.

How to apply online

  • Step 1: Go to the portal and create a profile, then log in.
  • Step 2: Choose Visa Type -> e-Visa (Tourist or Business).
  • Step 3: Complete the applicant form with personal details and travel plans.
  • Step 4: Upload required documents (passport data page scan, passport photo, hotel booking or invitation letter, return flight details).
  • Step 5: Pay the visa fee online (USD 100 for Tourist or USD 125 for Business) plus the service/processing fee; total around USD 125; NGN equivalent around 100,000.
  • Step 6: Submit and wait for e-Visa decision; you will receive an email with the e-Visa document.
  • Step 7: Print the e-Visa and carry it to Nigeria; present it together with your passport on arrival.

Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • Plan ahead: Apply at least 2–3 weeks before travel; 4–6 weeks is safer to account for processing delays.
  • Common rejection reasons for Afghan applicants: incomplete or inconsistent travel plans; passport validity under 6 months or insufficient blank pages; insufficient funds; missing hotel/invitation letters or return ticket; mismatch between stated purpose and supporting documents.

  • Extensions inside Nigeria: Extensions for e-Visas may be possible by applying with the Nigerian Immigration Service before expiry; approval is not guaranteed and depends on stay purpose and documentation; contact NIC offices in Nigeria for guidance.
