What you need

  • Passport: Must be valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay and have at least one blank page.
  • Visa Application Form: For e-Visa, this is completed online.
  • Financial Proof: While not always explicitly requested for e-Visa, it's advisable to carry bank statements showing sufficient funds (e.g., USD 1000-2000) to cover your stay.
  • Accommodation and Return Ticket: Proof of confirmed accommodation (hotel bookings) and a return or onward ticket are generally required.
  • Photo Spec: A recent passport-sized photograph (4cm x 6cm) with a white or light-colored background, taken within the last six months. The face should occupy 70-80% of the photo.
  • Biometrics: Biometric data (fingerprints and photo) are collected upon arrival at the immigration check, not during the e-Visa application.
  • Travel Health Insurance: While not strictly mandatory for all visa types, it is highly recommended. Ensure it covers medical emergencies and repatriation.

Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • Apply well in advance: While processing is quick, apply at least 2-3 weeks before your intended departure date to avoid last-minute issues.
  • Common rejection reasons: Incomplete or inaccurate application details, insufficient passport validity, issues with uploaded photos, and unclear travel intentions can lead to rejection. Ensure all information matches your passport.
  • e-Visa vs. Embassy: The e-Visa system is the most efficient and recommended method for Afghanistan citizens for Tourist and Business purposes. Direct embassy applications are less common and may have longer processing times and different requirements.
  • Current travel advisories: Always check for the latest travel advisories from your country's foreign ministry and Myanmar's immigration department before planning your trip. As of recent updates, the security situation in some parts of Myanmar can be volatile.
  • Extension options inside Myanmar: Visa extensions are generally difficult to obtain and are typically granted only in exceptional circumstances. It is crucial to plan your stay within the approved duration of your visa.
