Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: Start 2–4 weeks before travel; allow additional time during peak seasons or if documentation is complex.
  • Common rejection reasons for Afghan applicants specifically: Passport validity less than 6 months, inconsistencies between travel details and documents, poor quality scans or photos, incomplete applications, missing hotel or invitation letters when required.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: For Mauritania, the e-visa is processed online via the official portal; if considering embassy routes, verify with the Mauritanian mission and be aware of potential extra fees and longer timelines.
  • Travel advisories: Check your government travel advisories and Mauritanias MOFA guidance before travel; confirm entry requirements close to your departure date.
  • Extension options inside Mauritania: Extensions may be possible at immigration offices for a limited period with approval and fee; typical duration extensions require leaving the country or secure a new e-visa, and you should confirm current rules with Mauritanian authorities.
