What you need

  • Passport validity: Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond date of entry; at least 1 blank visa page.
  • Specific forms: No pre-arrival visa application forms for VOA; visa is issued on arrival at approved ports.
  • Financial proof: Proof of sufficient funds for the stay recommended: at least MOP 4,000 per month of stay. Acceptable forms include cash, bank statements from the last 3 months, or traveler's checks.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Proof of hotel booking or Macau address for the stay; onward/return ticket or sufficient travel arrangements.
  • Photo spec: Two recent color passport photos, size 40x50 mm, white background.
  • Biometrics: Biometrics pre-registration not required; border authorities may capture a digital photo at arrival.
  • Travel health insurance: Recommended but not mandatory.

  • How to apply: Arrive at a designated Macau immigration port (eg Macau International Airport or approved border entry point); present passport and proof of stay and funds; complete any simple form if provided; pay the visa fee in MOP (or supported currencies at the port); immigration stamps the visa and you proceed.
  • Ports: VOA available at Macau International Airport and select ports of entry; confirm on arrival which counters are designated for VOA.
  • Fee and currency: Fee 100 MOP; accepted currencies at ports typically include MOP, HKD, and in some cases USD; carry local currency for immediate payment.
  • Queue tips: Go during off-peak hours if possible; have documents ready (passport, hotel/address proof, return ticket, funds) to speed processing.

  • Express/priority option: Not generally available for Macau VOA; processing depends on port line length.

Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • Plan in advance only insofar as you confirm VOA availability at your port of entry; no separate pre-approval usually required.
  • Common rejection/restriction risks: Passport validity under 6 months, insufficient funds, lack of hotel/address proof, or lack of onward/return ticket may delay or deny VOA.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy: Macau VOA is issued at the port of entry; there is no separate VFS/BLS processing for VOA.
