What you need

  • Passport validity: passport must be valid for at least 6 months from date of entry and have at least 2 blank visa pages.
  • Specific forms: no separate paper form; complete the online e-visa application on https://www.vmp.gov.kz/; no DS-160, no VAF1A.
  • Financial proof: provide evidence of funds sufficient to cover your stay (e.g., bank statements). There is no fixed daily amount published for Afghanistan applicants.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: confirmed hotel reservation or invitation letter for your stay and a return or onward ticket.
  • Photo specification: recent passport-style color photo meeting standard size 35x45 mm with a white background.
  • Biometrics: no in-person biometrics submission is required as part of the e-visa application; the process is online.
  • Travel health insurance: recommended; ensure it covers medical expenses for the duration of your stay and international medical evacuation if possible.

  • Note: The e-visa program primarily covers these two categories; other visa types (e.g., student, work) may require a consular visa and are not issued online.

How to apply online

  • How to apply online: Open https://www.vmp.gov.kz/ and create a profile.
  • Steps: 1) Log in and select e-visa; 2) Choose Tourist or Business category; 3) Upload required documents: passport biographical page scan, recent photo, proof of accommodation or invitation letter, return flight ticket; 4) Pay the visa fee of 60 USD (the portal will display the local currency equivalent); 5) Submit and wait for processing; you will receive the decision in your portal account or by email and can download the e-visa once approved; 6) Print the e-visa and carry it with your passport to Kazakhstan.

Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • Apply well in advance: aim for at least 15–20 days before travel to allow for processing and potential checks.
  • Common rejection reasons for Afghan applicants: incomplete documents or scans, passport validity less than required, insufficient accommodation proof or invitation letter, lack of funds evidence, data mismatch between forms and passport, or discrepancies in travel plans.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: e-visa is applied online via vmp.gov.kz; no VFS/BLS submission.

  • Extension options inside Kazakhstan: e-visa stays are typically up to 30 days; extensions are not usually granted under the e-visa program.
