Afghan citizens can apply for Indonesia's e-visa for tourism online via the Molina portal; typical fee is USD 50, processing 3–4 working days, visa valid for 90 days with a maximum stay of 30 days per entry.

What you need

  • Passport validity: passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival and have at least 2 blank visa pages available.
  • Specific forms: there is no DS-160 or paper form for the e-visa; apply online through Molina portal at https://molina.imigrasi.go.id/ and upload required documents.
  • Financial proof: proof of sufficient funds for the duration of stay, typically a bank statement showing at least USD 1,500 (or equivalent in Afghan afghanis) available for travel; ensure statements are recent (last 3 months).
  • Accommodation and return ticket: proof of hotel booking or invitation letter and a return/onward travel ticket or itinerary.
  • Photo spec: passport-style photo 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm), white background, high resolution (minimum 600 x 600 px).
  • Biometrics: biometric data is not required to be submitted before applying online; biometric collection may occur at Indonesian entry immigration on arrival.
  • Travel health insurance: recommended to have travel health insurance covering medical expenses during the stay; not mandatory for e-visa alone.

Visa types

  • Tourist visa (Visit Indonesia Tourism Visa - VITV) – official name: Visit Indonesia Tourism Visa (B-211A Tourism). Validity: 90 days from issue. Max stay per visit: 30 days. Entry: single entry. Approximate fee: USD 50 (IDR about 750,000).
  • Business visa (Visit Indonesia Business Visa - VIBV) – official name: Visit Indonesia Business Visa (B-211A Business). Validity: 90 days. Max stay per visit: 60 days. Entry: single entry. Approximate fee: USD 100 (IDR about 1,500,000). Note: Availability via e-visa varies; may require embassy processing.
  • Student visa – official name: Student Visa (study) under Indonesian immigration routes. Availability via e-visa: typically not guaranteed; often requires consulate processing. Validity: up to 1 year; Entry: multiple entries may be permitted depending on the specific visa approval. Approximate fee: USD 120 (IDR about 1,800,000). Not all Afghanistan applicants may qualify via e-visa.
  • Work visa – official name: Work/Limited Stay Visa as allowed; availability via e-visa is not typical. Validity: up to 1 year (subject to employer sponsorship and ICC/HO requirements). Entry: multiple entries often permitted. Approximate fee: USD 150 or higher (IDR about 2,250,000 or more). Note: Work visas generally require employer sponsorship and consular/immigration processing.

How to apply online

  • How to apply online: Go to https://molina.imigrasi.go.id/ and create an account.
  • Steps: 1) Log in and start a new visa application; 2) Enter personal details and passport data; 3) Select visa type (Tourist e-visa preferred); 4) Upload documents: passport data page scan, passport photo, hotel booking/invitation letter, flight itinerary, bank statement; 5) Pay the visa fee (USD 50) using a credit/debit card or other supported payment method; 6) Submit the application and wait for processing; 7) Receive the e-visa decision by email; 8) Print the e-visa approval page and carry it with your passport; 9) Present the e-visa and passport on arrival at Indonesian immigration; 10) Immigration may request return/onsite hotel details and itinerary.
  • Fee and processing: The e-visa fee is USD 50; the payment is typically processed at the time of application; processing time is generally 3–4 working days.
  • How approval arrives: You will receive the e-visa document via the email address provided in the application; print a copy to present at immigration.

Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • Apply well in advance: start the e-visa application at least 7–14 days before planned travel; 3–4 days is standard processing but delays can occur.
  • Common rejection reasons for Afghan applicants: insufficient funds or unclear travel purpose; passport validity under 6 months; inadequate documentation (hotel/itinerary, return ticket); inconsistent data across documents; prior overstays or criminal records; weak travel history or lack of credible invitation/itinerary for business or study categories.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy: For e-visa, use the official Molina portal (no third-party agencies recommended). Sticker visas or consular processing may still be required for categories not eligible for e-visa; check the Indonesian embassy in Afghanistan for guidance.
