Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • Plan ahead: Begin visa preparation at least 8–12 weeks before intended travel.
  • Common rejection reasons specific to Afghanistan applicants: Inadequate proof of ties to home country, insufficient funds or bank history, missing or inconsistent documents, failure to demonstrate genuine purpose of visit, or misrepresentation.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy/application: There is no HK VFS/BLS center for Afghanistan; apply via paper-based process with the Hong Kong Immigration Department; consider contacting the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New Delhi for guidance if you are outside Hong Kong.
  • Travel advisories or bilateral notes: Check your government’s travel advisories and ensure you have up-to-date information; be aware of safety and security advisories in your region.
  • Extension options inside Hong Kong: If you are already in Hong Kong and need to extend your stay, apply to the Hong Kong Immigration Department before your current visa expires; approval is not guaranteed and depends on your circumstance.
