Afghan citizens must apply for a Guyanese e-visa online via the official Minfor portal; approvals are issued as an e-visa grant notice after online processing, with standard processing of 3-5 working days and fees payable online in USD or local currency.

What you need

  • Passport validity: Passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of intended entry into Guyana and have at least two blank visa pages.
  • Specific forms: There are no paper visa forms; you must complete the online e-visa application on the official Guyana MFA portal (minfor.gov.gy).
  • Financial proof: Provide bank statements or payslips showing sufficient funds to cover your stay; the official portal will specify the minimum funds required; generally, have funds to cover accommodation and daily expenses for the duration of stay.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter) and a return/onward ticket showing planned departure from Guyana.
  • Photo specification: A recent passport-style color photo meeting online application guidelines (e.g., white background, clear, front view). The portal will specify exact pixel dimensions and background requirements.
  • Biometrics: As an online e-visa, no in-person visa biometrics appointment is required unless specifically requested by the portal; if requested you will be notified.
  • Travel health insurance: Not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended to have travel medical insurance that covers your stay.

  • Work e-Visa: Official name: e-Visa (Work); Validity: 90 days from date of issue; Max stay: up to 30 days per entry; Entry: Single entry (some cases multiple); Approximate fee: USD 70

How to apply online

  • How to apply online: Go to the official Guyana e-visa portal linked from https://www.minfor.gov.gy/ and create an account.
  • Complete the application form for Afghanistan nationals and upload all required documents (passport scan, photo, hotel or invitation letter, return ticket, and financial proof).
  • Pay the visa fee online using USD or the local currency as shown at checkout; the amount will be shown in the portal before you confirm.
  • Submit the application; standard processing time is 3-5 working days; you will receive an email with the e-visa grant notice if approved; download and print the e-visa grant notice.
  • On arrival in Guyana, carry the printed e-visa grant notice and your passport; border officers will verify it as part of entry; if additional documents are requested, you will be notified by email by the MFA portal.

Tips for Afghanistan travelers

  • Apply well in advance: start the online e-visa application at least 3-4 weeks before your planned travel date.
  • Common rejection reasons for Afghanistan applicants: incomplete documents or mismatched information, insufficient funds or unclear proof of purpose of visit, passport validity less than 6 months, poor quality photograph, or security/reputation concerns; ensure all information matches your supporting documents.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: for an e-visa you apply online via the MFA portal; there is no separate VFS/BLS submission for Guyana e-visas; if advised otherwise by the MFA, follow those instructions.
  • Travel advisories or bilateral notes: check your home country travel advisory and Guyana’s official travel advisories before travel; ensure there are no current entry bans or additional screening requirements.
  • Extension options inside Guyana: tourist stays can typically be extended by applying with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services before the current visa expires; approval is at the discretion of Guyanese authorities and fees apply.
